Hi everyone, I need some help on the Webpage front. I’m also looking for a new logo for the company, first off I don’t have a huge budget for this, so if you want large wads of cash for this, thank you, but no thanks. I played around with my own stuff, but after seeing what you guys could do in almost no time, there is no way I’m trying this on my own (specifically the safethespringbok stuff). I need a simple site where I can place my suppliers affiliate links, and a downloadable pricelist in pdf. I have a domain name registered, but don’t know what the status is, I also want to register another name, and both must be linked to the one site, if possible? The traffic will not be high as we do only corporate clients (and a forum member here and there), but I would like to add a FTP download section later. Any ideas?

Fully do-able.
And yes both websites can be linked to one name.

Thanks, what would be the first step, I have heard about some hosting sites, that gives you templates to “create” your own site, I really don’t need anything flash, just functional. If I can even “maintain” it myself, in terms of updating the pricelist file and so on.

You got the PM system switched off?
my email is [email protected] if you need info/help.And Yes, most hosting companies use cpanel-which includes ready made templates.

Personally I think you should go for a basic website, or a cms (content management system) like joomla.

not trying to be funny here or anything, but I would be perfect for the job.

Reasons:
I know Graphics AND Web Design.
I tend to make my sites look nice by graphics & interface, and not with high-level flash/php or whatever - just basic html which can be updated by anyone by using something as simple as Front page.

I charge +- R700 per site. but depends on how much work it is - could be more, could be less.

sorry bru, i just make the graphics/Sites - can't help you with hosting but it's quite cheap AFAIK (some ppl get them for free - Linoman AFAIK, DJK's Rugby thingy, someone sponsored me with a free domain too, a while ago...)

PS:

I made this: http://www.evolutionlan.co.za but the guy updating it is doing a crap job...so i havta make a new one for him, and make it even easier to update since he doesn't know ANYTHING about frontpage.

Evolution looks cool :) should;ve flashed the buttons - to pop in/out on mouseover.
Although its taking a while to load on Opera.
Hosting is cheap. I use Serv.co.za

Very nice, a bit busy, but nice. The main thing for me would be to display my suppliers affiliate links to their website, they generate the code for that, so will supply when we are ready. The site will be 2 fold, one side is the import company, and the other will be the development and installation side, the import company already have a registered domain, but the development side does not. I will also need to have control of uploading my pricelists and documentation, as they can change a lot. Then there is the usual e-mail, contact us, and perhaps a request a quotation links.

Thanks Synergy, cheap is a relative term:D…my site will not have much traffic I think, I don’t need it to be local, how much are you paying at the moment if I may ask?

R27 a month. And superb support!
Have all my clients hosted with them :)

Yep. Unlimited email addresses, 1GB space for your website and 12.5GB banddwidth.
Typically a small website (as in your case )will us a maximum of 50MB and 250MB bandwidth.

I'd highly advise against free webhosting and cc domains.
For too many reasons to list here.
Its fine for a personal website, to mess around with etc

Ok sorry just read the OP again he needs it for a company, yep then I would also suggest with going with a paid solution and preferably a local company for if something goes wrong you can easily contact them.. The place where i worked before used
Host4Africa for their website and also had good service from them

But Serv.co.za got very good rates..
