I just had to share these comments made by Danny Jordan regarding those who appear to desire that SA fails in everything it does.

Jordaan lauded the ticket sales as a realisation of excellence and a sign that the country "cannot wait for the 11th of June." He also hit out at reports suggesting that some World Cup tickets would not be sold.

"First you said the stadiums will never be finished, that was your perception," Jordaan said. "The reality is all the stadiums are done. Then you said we are going to run out of money before everything is in place. It did not happen. That was your perception, you were wrong. Then you said no one is going to buy the tickets and now we say we've sold over 2 million and we have 900,000 and we're going to sell every ticket."

Isn't it humorous how when one of their "predictions" fails to come true they just move into the next one. That is what really pisses me off with these people, they can say what they want, no matter how far fetched and uneducated, as they never have to be held accountable.

But lo and behold something small does go wrong, we will never hear the end of it as they come out saying "I told you so". The problem is they told us another thousand things which never came true!

Yeah. I am so sick of hearing the "Nay Sayers" bringing down the FWC. These are the same people who believed in Y2K me thinks.

Doomsdayers to the core. Gotta pity them living with all that pessimism.

FWC is gonna be awesome. Got my tickets and can't wait.

fck all those people who cant wait for this to fail.

cant they simply realise that this is ONCE in a lifetime....for fck sakes when will we ever have the World Cup in Africa again in our lifetimes? never duh.
I get goosebumps just seeing some of the stadiums we have built! They are here and they are World Class stadiums . We are ready.I am ready to see Henry in Bloem :D

...and a fair whack of the country are getting behind it. I know a lot of companies have been supporting things like Soccer Friday but I have been pleasantly surprised at the number of South African soccer shirts being worn by people from all walks of life recently. Hell, even my mom was asking about where to get one the other day and the price... and she doesn't have a clue about soccer! The vibe is definitely starting to build!

We have no idea what's going to hit us!! This is going to be huge!!!! The vibe, the excitement, the soccer, the teams, the tourists!!!!! We in for a roller-coaster ride the likes of which we've never experienced before!!!

At what cost? People are still living in shacks, and the transport system is still run by savages.
But we have some nice shiny stadiums? Colour me unimpressed. The money could have been spent on more important things.

Moederloos - + 1, exactly that money could have been spent on other things.. like Eskom, so we dont have to pay through our noses for electricity

Dude, shacks and locations will still be there, no matter how much money you throw at them.

Such short sightedness.....

Short sighted? 16 years of promises...

Go tell that to the next bunch of squatters you see burning and breaking stuff because that don't have their free houses or because of service delivery / corruption.
You'll be seeing plenty of that during the WC.

+1

Get your house in order then host a football tournament

That should be something to witness. 'Ol rays of happiness telling people who live in their own sewage they're sort sighted while pointing to a grandiose football stadium. Silly people need to get their priorities in order :erm:

Ag, but TIA.
When we have a muppet who failed woodwork pointing at a crowd of shack dwellers and saying "I am one of you", while the arm he points with wears a R250K watch - then we will continue to have extravagant shows like this, and nothing will ever be corrected.
Viva la revolution!

My 2c:
An awful lot of money is being spent on the SWC. So much that no one seems phased at Soccer City costs going R1bn over budget. Not R100m, not R250m, One-Billion-randas! That is over-spending/scope-creeping on another scale!

Why is that? Why isn't an eyebrow being lifted when anything SWC is over/misspent but a municipality doing the same is bashed for doing so? Is Government so deeply creeped into FIFA's arse that they won't dare admit fault?
If so, we need to be very concerned. After the SWC, the government will suddenly realise their coffers are running thin and suddenly hike taxes to compensate...
