Neighbour's Wifi

Have you tried changing the location your modem is in. If you have another telkom point, try that location.
 
what kind of router do they have? I want one like that.

can u move your router?

If this happens, I move the router to different locations and test it. A large mass of metal (distribution board, fridge) will block the signal, so you need to move the router from this location.

Using the Android wifi analyser or a Windows based wifi analyser, you need to determine the best location for the router which gives you a decent coverage

Also remember that height enhances the performance. Place the router against the ceiling, away from any obstructions
 
when laptop is in same room as modem- signal is good but not perfect.
Moving the router is not an option
 
No space in ceiling.
Someone suggested I try powerline bridge plug and AP
 
Install Aircrack, leech off neighbours wifi.

Problem solved.

If the signal used to be good but became poor without changing the router location/settings/etc and works fine if taken elsewhere then something at your house changed.

There was a story on here a while ago with someone finding out a day/night switch for his outside lighting was causing interference, anything like that changed at home? Perhaps a new electric fence or similar? Alarm system upgrade? Anything different/new/etc?

Tried switching everything else in the house off at the DB board besides the circuit that feeds the router and testing?
 
Shield your house with wiremesh or set of colanders. Stay safe in Faraday cage for few months and see what happpens. Optionally send flowers to your neighbour when he get cancer.

There might be nothing at all wrong with the router.

Just it's placement.

If the neighbour's is better placed for where the signal is required or is a much stronger device it makes sense.

Doesn't mean there's something wrong with his.
 
Just relocate router to a different position much higher up and away from other equipment .
