[Nelspruit] REALLY bad Data access

Tx, you living in Nelspruit permanently now?

Can you pass me your contact details for the local guys?

Yip, living in the best part of the world... 5 years in K@kstad was enough for me! Will PM you my contact details

Thanks V3G, a rep phoned me and will come out to the office as soon as I'm back from the BS-session I have to attend

I live in Nelspruit area, West Acres to be specific, had the same issue with VC3G disconnects every 10 seconds, turns out my machine was infected with a virus, formatted machine, reloaded windows and no more issues. Got a laptop as well and didn't experience any issues other than slow throughput during peak hours, but I recon that'll be normal?:D

Sadly... not a virus in my case.
Not unless some hacker also made a virus that can infect a PS3 as well.

Was out of office all day yesterday, same today. Will call him when I'm back
Definitely not a virus - In Ermelo - connected for almost an hour now without disconnections

An here we go again...
as of about 13:30, connection drops to Rx:0 or disconnect every few seconds.

Latency absurd.
3G/HSDPA worthless, EDGE almost as bad.

So far today not one disconnect. V3G, it seems the guys got it sorted out. I can't contact the Vodacom rep on the number he called from, neither can I SMS him. Please thank him!

I take that back.
3G/HSDPA still Rx:0 often, slow and unstable.
Particularly international traffic.

I have not received a 'fixed' update yet, so I don't think it's resolved yet. Will keep you posted though, it's currently with the actual hardware manufacturers.

/added

They did indeed make some some changes Wednesday night that resulted in much less disconnects. More to come, so please test and let us know.

The wheels came off in a big way this afternoon... Although no disconnects, a max upload speed of 96.5kbps and download of 315.8kbps (MDMA) is only marginally better than being disconnected... (CellID 50088)

For some reason, I have been entirely unable to access this forum at all for 2 days.
Dont know if its somehow connected to our problem, but anyway.

UPDATE TIME!

Over the last same 2 days, the stability of the connections have improved somewhat. I have been able to narrow down my biggest chunk of Rx:0 events to early mornings.
(Midnight - 9am).

With that said though, the speeds are a constantly shifting factor.

I am still not able, from time to time, to connect at all on 3G-Only profile. Still need to switch to GPRS/EDGE-Only to make the connection and then switch to 3G-Only after connection succeeds.

Also, another first for me this week:
I seem to be getting disconnected when, for example, reading a page or replying to an email.
Seems that once the network thinks im not using the connection actively, they dump it off.
I have checked in Windows to make sure the "disconnect when idle" option is not enabled, so that does not seem to apply here.

ROUNDUP:
All in all, the last 2 days (excluding not being able to access this site) has been heaven compared to my last 2 months' experience.
Will keep you updated for better or worse.

Just to update,
Its only fair to throw in the good stuff as well.

The whole weekend, no Rx:0 or disconnects.
Not even 1.

Good stuff VC!

Latency was only slightly worse than it used to be, and transfers speeds are decent.

Really CR@PPY tonight... max up/download in the 100kb/s order. Tried to phone 155 - connection errors... CellID 50088 and 54401. Dumped 3G only profile for Edge only as it is actually much faster...

Edge signal better than 3G+ - Nelspruit/White River Area

At work we only have Vodacom 2G (236.8Kbps) signal,at best. At home I have full 3G+ signal (3.5Mbps) and this used to work just fine, until a few weeks ago.

These days the 3G+ at home is so slow that Telkom dailup is faster, even with the light-blue light shining. What is up with this? Is my E220 modem acting up or is there something wrong with the 3G+ signal at home?

Give vodacom a call - it could very easily be a technical issue (e.g. interference). They're suprisingly good at following up on technical network related complaints.
