NeoConnect pricing details

So am I.

You are in a very small minority of people who will benefit from these packages so you, and a lot of others, need to chillax and realise that there will be a lot of 'moaning' from the lower-end users as these packages simply do not suit them.

dude show me one package that is cheeper and beats this, there is no uncapped unshaped pruduct on the market that beats this,
i beg you to show me :D

this is South africa a usless **** hole in the middle of no where be happy for the competition

those are the prices? and there are caps? some COMPETITION for telkom this is gonna be... gimme a break.. neotel.. go away.
please show me why this is not COMPETITION?
there are still lots of 1st world countries that have caps
do some research
done expect like neotel is gona be the same price as some Swedish ISP's

I have to agree with you! I mean everyone say Neotel then they just assume that its a very good offer. Allthough its very cheaper than any other telkom/IS uncapped its still a bit pricey for the average guy! I can't even get neotel here so maybe we should complain about that! :mad:
i emailed them asking whats there plans on expanding and ill post it here when i get a reply
That is what I just can't understand. I have been waiting for competition for the devil that is Telkom as long and pateintly as the next guy but that does not mean I am gonna jump ship to Neotel, or any other company, if they are not offering me a better service than I already have!

I don't understand why some people just don't understand this simple fact.
this is competition , how can you expect prices like europe the first day the provide ther services, give them time once there stable then you will see prices dropping

This is my take on it as well. I wonder what the response from the other telcos will be...
they will drop there prices watch.

Ok, well I get a phone line and 4Mb DSL line for less than R500/month.

ISP's are Openweb - 5GB SAIX for R240
WebAfrica 30GB IS - R130

Works for me.
thats like 2 days of downloading, its nothing
for R200 more (not exact) you get uncapped unshaped what more do you want ??

ps...
also people remember we still have littl bandwidth to the int world
wait for a few more under sea lines to land in southafrica then the prices go down
thats the meain reason for such hefty pricing

Quite :rolleyes:

What does shaping have to do with support or lack thereof of P2P?

Unshaped means there is no prioritizing of one protocol. That means all protocols will have the same performance ALL the time. So whether you FTP/p2p/VOIP or just watch youtube - it does not matter. Unshaped means: Use whatever service you want.

AUP: This might be another beast...

As I have mentioned on countless previous occasions, I am talking about low-end packages. The average South African does not care about unshaped or low pings or anything like that.

They don't want to be paying R600-R1000/month for internet though.

Everybody seems to have missed the strategy shift from Neotel. In the beginning Mr.Pandey (Neotel CEO) stated that they are planning on shaking up the SA Telecoms market. A year or so later he stated that consumers must not expect them to radically under-cut the "incumbent" (Telkom). What was eveybody expecting . . . miracles ????

The VSNL group is the biggest shareholder of the SAT3/SAFE cable. In bussines terms this simply means that they (Neotel) gets the best rates. Also keep in mind that the SAFE portion of the cable terminates in India. What a bargain . . . Neotel is owned by VSNL which in turn is owned by TATA comms, which is based in India. As luck will have it, they would not need any additional peering connections to reach the WWW, as they are terminating on their own network.

Telkom on the other hand incurs additional connectivity costs.
Another piece of sh@%t they keep on feeding us, is that SAT/SAFE is running on full capacity . . . not so. The bitrate on the cable was recently increased, which freed up a hell of a lot of capacity. Google the cable figures, and you'll realise that the cable is running at less than 50% capacity. For interest sake, SA is using more of the capacity on the cable, than all the other co-users combined.

Neotel should be in a much better position to pass on cost savings, but they chose not to. Instead they chose to get a return on their investment in the shortest possible time. Because of our isolated location, our SP's are making a killing. If you look at the profit margins of the UK and states based companies, they are over the moon when they make a 10% GP. Our locals boys average around 30%. This is the reason why all the international operators are so interested in buying out our local operators. The only reason why their profit margins are so high, is because they are ripping us off !

NEOTEL IS RIPPING US OFF !!!!!

remember this is also the phone line
if you dont spend alot of time but want uncapped then here
NeoConnect Lite Unlimited – 156 Kbps

* 1000 Neotel-to-Neotel voice minutes
* 25 Neotel-to-Neotel SMSes
* Email account
* Unlimited Internet usage
* Cost: R469 per month

but remember this is there wireless option there land line broadband is not up yet
that should be nicely priced

I hope there is a cap at some point on the 'unlimited' package which will stop those people who are calculating they can download 200GB+ a month from doing so. The very same people on this forum who bitch the loudest are those who, by downloading asmuchaspossible, ensure that the vast majority of users pay more for the services.

Well, if you are referring to my calculation that was done to show the perceived value you would be able to get from the connection. It helps to compare the amount of data you can theoretically download using the service, to other capped packages.

In now way did I say you need to download as much as possible. That being said, if I have a broadband connection I sure as hell will use it to the full potential. Streaming YouTube Videos, Live Videocast, NASA TV, CNN etc. will eat up any cap quickly.

It's a shame that most of us have been so conditioned by the Telescum operators to only use a broadband connection for e-mail and browsing without images... in order to not eat up the cap too fast! A broadband connection without a sufficient, if any, cap is completely useless... kinda like have a Ferrari parked in the garage and taking it out for a Sunday drive every now and then.

I think we should cut Neotel a little slack. As their first offering these packages are really good. You guys saying you get a Telkom 512 with a 5gb ISP account for only a little more than the Neotel offering are also forgetting what ACTUAL throughputs you get on a Telkom 512 DSL.

The proof of the pudding is going to be as Neotel starts to sell their products with no caps or shaping is how this actually impacts on the user experience. Add 50 or so uncapped, unshaped P2P'ers to a tower and what happens to the tower's throughput/backhaul bandwidth.

I think the best thing to do is watch this new baby grow up a bit. Maybe watch it fall down every now and then. :eek: I think one thing we can all agree on is now we have more choice. Surely that must be a good thing?

I agree. The thing is, if we all just sit back and say that this offer is awesome just because it isn't Telkom, then what incentive is there for Neotel to offer us an improved service at a later stage?

No, it's not. It might be the best value for money, but it's not the cheapest.

I can get adsl for R169 at cybersmart, plus the line rental of R120 = R289. And that's what most people will look at - how much it costs overall, not what the speed is or how many Gb are included.

On top of that most people already have a telkom line and don't imagine parting with it for a company they don't yet know or trust... it's just the mindset out there.

All you speed freaks out there will laugh at me when I say that the 156K uncapped is a good package on offer. It will suit many downloaders out there. Sure, surfing will be castrated, and yotube a disaster, but you won't have to worry about being capped on international. I believe this package will suit the news server freaks on a budget. The 2gb/30gb IS packages wont touch this. I think the competition will have sit up and take notice.:eek:

Bolt on a $10/month (R76) from Astraweb news-server, and you could do 50GB per month (theoretically). Try doing that on a crappy IS news server at 5KB/sec.

I think Neotel have made a good start, and once all the shouting and screaming is over, people start to realise this.

And I will wait for the feedback since I have no choice cos they dont service my area :p
Other issue is that I need a phone as well as internet... not either/or

Business management 101. People move to Neotel = Telkom drop prices. Telkom drop prices = people move BACK to Telkom = Neotel drop prices. And so the circle continues. In short it's called competition. Yes I know it's a foreign concept in our telecoms market. But.....

IT HAS BEGUN. :D :D :D :D :D

I just don't think people will flock to neotel. Their ADSL offerings had better be a lot better than this.

rpm, are you an agent for Neotel? How can you call that PDF you posted a coverage map? :(

It is a map - if you put it in perspective, it would be a dot in the middle of gauteng, so they had to really zoom in to show you the coverage! :p
