Neotel addresses network issues

How the hell are Neotel fibre links getting congested?
The fibre they're laying is most likely a minimum 48 core fibre, pushing multiple gigabits if not terabits.
Are they not lighting enough fibre? Surely this should be very _very_ easy to fix?

Why are they not adequately lighting enough fibre everywhere and planning for growth, even if their initial utilization on the line is minimal?

Come on Neotel, where's your planning? This is very poor from a company that was supposed to deliver big things.

He said that Neotel would do well to assess what happened to Sentech regarding network usage and service deterioration. Neotel may be at the crossroads when it comes to resolving the issue, he added, and unless a long term solution is employed Neotel may be faced with the same challenges as Sentech.

I really, really hope that they don't become the next Sentech!

http://mybroadband.co.za/news/Broadband/7831.htmlIf I am not mistaken, one of the primary reasons for the failure of Sentech's MyWireless service, was that Sentech continually failed to listen to what Sentech's subscribers were telling Sentech.

And of course The Treasury quite correctly refused to throw more money into another of Poison Ivy's & Stalin-Mafole's pet failures.

Whilst on that topic, a quick derailing - what is the status quo on sentech and guavamint's proposed digital television scheme at present?

(seems that the government will either pull out of this digital chicanery, or stick its head deeper into the sand...)

and now, back to the topic....

LIES, and more horse shyte !!
They said by end of April, performance and disconnect issues would be resolved but I think no one even there understands what it means to optimise!! i.e. make it better not friggern worse you bloody numskulls !!
Cancellation will be done in person at your head office tomorrow, I'm just not taking the risk of dealing with the most incompetent and useless call centre in the planet.

i stopped caring about telkom and neotell, have a wireless provider that actually could help me.

Never thought the day would come - you mean Telkom are better than Neetel  - my DSL's working fine :D

I wonder how they define "only a small portion of their customers". I am watching the whole Neotel saga with interest for when Sentech goes bleh on me, unfortunately Neotel is just not cutting it. However, Kudos to them for having a rep on the forum who is helping out with some of the problems.

Really started experiencing this yesterday, connect fine but no throughput. Seems to be tower dependant (I seem to connect to 192 & 360 randomly, will work on one but not the other).

Sucks.

For some reason I am feeling better and better about going the telscum route instead of getting Notel.

It is horrible - I mean they don't even seem up to par with iBurst. So much for their SNO ambitions. If they have so much trouble rolling out CDMA I don't want to bet money on them getting any advanced services right ( fixed-line, FTTC/FTTH or any of those things we should soon start to think about).

Neotel's wireless network is definitely at a disadvantage. However their fiber backbone doesn't seem to have any problems at all.

Tracing route to 41.166.1.2 over a maximum of 30 hops

1 13 ms 15 ms 15 ms dsl-242-0-01.telkomadsl.co.za [41.242.0.1]
2 15 ms 15 ms 15 ms rrba-ip-lir-1-gig-0-0-0.telkom-ipnet.co.za [196.43.8.198]
3 15 ms 15 ms 15 ms 196.43.25.138
4 15 ms 15 ms 15 ms 41.160.2.70
5 15 ms 15 ms 15 ms 41.160.0.245
6 15 ms 15 ms 15 ms 41.166.1.2

Trace complete.

As you can see there the network looks fine, though I'd like more ranges to test. From international the traces looks good too.

Too bad they currently only offer wireless solutions to the consumer market, from someone with access to other solutions I can say their backbone thus far is not bad at all with competitive prices. However one would like to see how this will turn out in the future as well.

Clearly Neotel are moving at their own pace.It would seem that growth is not in the cards in the near future for them.It will take forever to get national coverage. If you were hoping to sign up with them in the near future and you are based outside the Metros I think you better rethink your hopes.

Good keeping us up to date with Neotel network issues, but MTN had several netwk failures of late, but no update from u guys...keep all of us informed

I believe when they say 'congestion' they are referring to the wireless portion of the link... this is why they mention tower upgrades... ie. adding more antenna to oversubscribed towers, tweaks and adjustments.

As I understand it - there are limitations on the amount of data and number of subscribers 1 antenna can handle... any more and service levels degrade drastically.

Maybe a little more transparency with regards information on the problems being experienced and ETA to a fix.

that would be the case, to many on on point would degrade it, but surely they should have done something to prevent this?

Does neotel have a 24/7 support/complaints number?

I have not been able to find a number for them that does not say "our office ours are from ..... good bye" after 5 or on week ends

Its been 2 weeks since I have complained and I have not heard a word from Neotel.
Do they guarentee any Service Levels?
I am considering to move back to Telkom and I do not want to be stuck with paying off their crappy equipment.
At the very least my physical line is still intact and a reconnection is only a phone call away, would hate myself if I had to make that call..

i might be goin out on a limb here, working for one of the leading mobile network providers in the world, i have heard some things.....

From my side and what i hear from the guys around me it seems that Neotel has simply not implemented their network correctly as well as perhaps not getting the right support from the telecoms company/vendor that they employed to set up their systems (...am sure its a chinese company....cheap cheap cheap)

Anyway its just goin to take time.Like any new network there will be teething problems, its just wether or not those problems are being fixed by experianced neotel optimizers or their chinese vendor counterparts.....

all in all i hope that Neotel can get its act together and sort all of these issues out.The services they are offering at those prices are sure to attract more subscribers once their coverage expands.
