Hi all,
Please bare with me through this long and tedious post. This is my dilemma...
All I want to be able to do is:
A) Share my internet connection via wireless to other devices (namely my XBOX 360 and Macbook Pro).
B) Share files/folders via wireless to other devices (as specified above)
Problem:
The Neotel Prime device allows for one to make telephone calls (which is a must) and to access the internet. However, it is not a wireless access point. On the other hand, the NeoFlex option allows for a router and a wireless access point, but there is no telecom option with that package. So NeoFlex is not an option for me. So that leaves me with internet and a phone, but I cannot connect more wireless devices to it.
I have just recently installed Windows 7 and love the "virtual routing" capabilities thereof and I'm still finding my way around it. So far I am able to share my internet to my other devices quite easily, however I haven't been able to share my files through it. Which brings me to my first question:
1) Can one use the Windows 7 "virtual router" to share files/folders to another platform other than Windows 7 (such as my Mac)? And if so, does any one know how??
2) Also I would like to share files to my XBOX via the media centre. Is this also possible using the windows 7 virtual router?
The problem with the above is that the Windows virtual router is set to encrypt using WPA2... the problem? My 360 wireless card only supports WEP and WPA. Next question:
Is there a way to allow windows virtual router to use WEP or WPA encryption instead of WPA2??
I have also looked into the option of setting up a 3rd party 3G Router (a standard router won't work as neotel is a wireless internet device). D-link makes such a router and basically it will allow me to do everything I want to do... at the expense of R2200 odd.
It would just seem a waste to have to resort to that option when the Windows virtual router seems to work fine. I'm just not sure if it's able to pull off all the networking requirements I need it to (sharing files and net to my 360 and Mac). To the naked eye it doesn't seem like a complicated need, but after much searching, it seems to be!
Any advice, help, words of wisdom or anything would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance!
Fabio
