Guys, has there been any resolution or outcome to this thread? I dont want to see this one go away because this is important stuff.

thanx a lot guys, had the guys from PostNet come and check my signal, 70 RSSI, not bad, would have expected better. got the papers to sign up for the prime contract and all, just didn't want to spend to much.

but this thread has sealed it for me, i think neotel must take a few sticks + pieces of rope + a plastic bag = build a kite and go find some wind and fly it all day long ;)

i will not fall back to telkom, but where to next:confused:, currently on 3g and it is a pinch in the pocket, don't want the overhead cost of leasing a line from telkom, maybe iburst, dope they suck as well.

come to think of it, if i only get 10kb/s on a neotel torrent download (like a friend of mine), a bloody dial-up will do it

How much cap can we use?

Ok this is IMPORTANT! ie. I need a correct answer!

I have a 10GB Flex Data cap if I use a Data monitor
and say that it stated I had used 9GB how much more
will Neotel state I've use?

How big is the difference between ACTUAL usage and
what NEOTEL "Thinks" you use?

Nobody knows, there is no set standerd as to the over charge and this is why people are getting so frustrated as there is no way for them to monitor their usage without contacting the call center. From what i can tell by the posts in the thread it ranges from anything between about 15-40%. There is however someone who was reporting something much higher, but i think that was most likely an issue on his end as he has installed another monitoring program and hasn't said anything since. Thats about the most "correct" answer anybody is going to be able to give you unfortunately.

Sorry mate :(

Sorry mate :(

I can say that my overcharge has been a pretty consistent 25% over what I've actually used

Just got my bill - got to love the 5 days SAPO email system (LOL - thank goodness I don't opt for snail mail else it would take a year)

Besides that, my data usuage is 100% spot on - 2405MB and my home PC reported about 2400Mb (can be out by a few MB in a month due to my monitoring only checking once a minute). Last month I was billed 500Mb more than what my usuages stats showed. If it is accurate again for March (my usuage vc Neotel) then I will write Jan off as an error on my side.

I cant even measure my usage since 3 different devices use my neotel... Since my bill didnt charge me for over usage im happy with it.

Feb 09 - no overcharging

I've just received my bill for March. Nothing over. :) Then again, I was afraid to just STAND next to PC while being connected (as the static electricity on my clothes might pull more bytes over the interwebs) - so I took it very easy on the internet last month. Thus, as I don't have stats with me at work, it might still be the case that they "overcharged" me and that I was too far from my cap. As soon as I am home tonight I'll check my actual usage stats.

However, they did charge me R10 for calls (which I did make) but the bill shows 0 units - not that I'll complain about that. Data usage also shows 0 - perhaps they undercharged me this time.

I sent Neotel a mail regarding my MAJOR overcharging in Dec and Jan, and got a mail a week later that they were looking at it and would send me detailed reports. Never got these!!

Also, I checked Netlimiter and the other app that I am using (forgot its name), Netlimiter does seem to seriously under report data, so "Sorry Neotel!".

However, it would still help millions if you guys could actually
a) Send the usage stats
b) Implement the same services that the rest of the market has and SHOW USAGE STATS!!
c) Or just make uncapped R400 p/m. I'll stop complaining then. :D

Hi all,

Please provide your feedback on this once you have analysed your bills.

Got my bill today and for the first time it is right :D
Bad news is I used 2gb cause I was expecting the overcharge to fill the rest of the 10gb :D

Hi Intox, thanks for the feedback - rest of you please provide feedback.

Hi Intox, thanks for the feedback - rest of you please provide feedback.

My pleasure.
Also a special thank you to the Neotel rep, thank you for sorting all the issues I was having, I would most likely still not have my antenna if you had not stepped in :)

:-) Checked my personal usuage stats (vnstat under Ubuntu) and I reported 90MB less than Neotel bill - this will be correct as my monitoring is only done every minute and I loose the previous 59s or less of stats when I drop/disconnect my connection. Thats 3MB per day which is spot on and an acceptable error on my side.

I also received my first Neotel bill and had absolutely no billing issues where data is concerned. Their usage was exactly the same as my DU Meter reading. So no complaints there.

What I am going to take up with them though is how they think they can pro-rate me R450 for 3 days in Jan, when I only received my device on the 2nd of Feb. If I don't have my device I can't use the service and therefore shouldn't have to pay for it, but even if I did it wouldn't be R450!! That's ridiculous! The entire month including device is supposed to be R699, so R450 should be more than half a months usage.
