Yea its cheaper, but it still doesn't give me what i want. I'll wait for the price war to start...

I still think that this is a decent offering.

I would prefer a wired solution and the device could be better (ethernet or better a router).

I'm on iBurst and have been toying with getting a land line, I was paying R360 for a gig hard cap and using my cell to make calls. If they were installing land lines I would on it in a second, but they are not and I KNOW that I do not want a wirelsss solution forever.

I think that if there are no strings attached ie a 24 month contract the I will go for this.
My ideal package would be about R300, 5-7 gig, 512k. I think that most people are looking for something like this.

NEOTEL ! Before you do anything else show us some better devices !! Please !!

my personal Neotel vs Telkom comparison

Free smses____________50______________I have a cellphone
Stuff I pay for-________minutes, smses,___
but don't want_________phone___________phone line

If all of the issues in red are addesses by Neotel this might be a decent offer. However I suspect that the Unknown factors will not be announced in favour of the client. If they however were this could be an allright offer. Not anything to write home about, just alright.

I will not be interested if any of the following apply:
Local usage uses up the 10GB cap
I have to buy local bandwidth at 8c/mB
The latency remains at 150ms locally
The latency fluctuates tremendously based on external factors such as weather conditions
I am unable to sign a month to month contract
I am unable to disable the phone completely. Since I have no use for the phone I would most definitely not want to be dropped from the internet when somebody calls the wrong number.

Unfortunately a known enemy is better than an unknown one. Neotel is just not forthcoming enough with information, and there are way too many factors which have not been mentioned. Had they actually ran a trial, I am sure most of these issues would have been listed and that they would have been more forthcoming with information.

I urge people not to sign a 24 month contract with Neotel. Unless you want to end up the same way the Iburst and Sentech clients ended up. Once you are hooked they can stop investing and you have no way to get out of the contract until it expires.

Clearly I missed it - where did the idea of a 24 month contract come from?

Not a terrible entry but very far from brilliant. Shop around a bit and you're sure to come very close to those prices by using ADSL. I'm on 4MB and having any less speed is not an option. Secondly, I use about 50GB every month and I pay less than R1000.

I guess we should just wait for Seacom. I'm optimistic but not incredibly excited. We'll see...

Just as I suspected. Rather than coming into the market and shaking things up a bit Neotel has used the existing pricing/offer structures (as well as playing on the uneducated consumer) as the benchmark for their product. With their access to SAT3 there really is no excuse. I doubt their pricing will drop significantly when Seacom comes on stream. More likely that usage and speeds will improve but still at double the price of comparable international offers (see BT below).

I understand that companies need to turn profits, but what I don't get is why a company with circumstances stacked so much in their favour would not go for the all-out big campaign. That is to say...lose out on any profits for the first year or two by pulling in the punters with a hugely differentiated offer that results in long-term gain through sheer volumes.

Was in the previous article I believe, also in comments from users with regards to feedback from Notel.

384 telkom = ±48KB/s [384 / 8]
300kbps - 700kbps neotel = 300 Kbps is ±36.62 kB/s & 700 Kbps is ±85.45 kB/s

So even at it's slowest speed it's almost as fast as telkoms 384k DSL
http://www.testmy.net/tools/convert.php?n=700&c=1 - see for your self :)

As for the pings it's wireless you will always get high latency on wireless, local or international. As for weather affection a wireless connection I has SAT DSL and have had max DL speed in thunder storms!

IMO give it some time and Neotel should have internet and phone only options! :D

I skimmed the earlier articles but found nothing pertaining to a 24 month contract.

You don't have to convert it from Kbps to KBps to see that it is in the same order, and hance it is not marked in red. What about the ones marked in red then Glordit?

I believe he's thinking of this:

Has any one in JHB/PTA been contacted by Neotel??

Called the call centre & the guy confirmed that they launched & are in the process of contacting prospective clients in JHB/PTA.

The launch price for Neotel prime is R599 :sick::eek: (24 month contract involved)

That amount includes 50 SMS's, 1000 "free" voice minutes and 10Gig cap. Exceeding the cap will cost you 8c/MB.

Personally, even if it is a contract-only subscription, it doesn't really bug me, so long as there isn't a migratory fee when they bring out new services. I'm looking forward to Neotel.

*Waits impatiently for his cellphone to ring with the happy, "Would you like to subscribe now" call*

*sighs happily*

While I have no intention of signing a 24 month contract (who knows where I'll be in 6 months let alone 2 years) I'll be more than happy to ride any ripple wave as the other provider adjusts their offering.

lol, they just realeased that info today I say give em a week or two and see what developes ;)

Don't know too much on the details either, but they should have internet and phone only options in the not too distant future.

I don't get it... even if folks feel the offering is too expensive/not flexible enough/{insert reason here}, how is this not getting more love? It's monumentally astounding that we have an actual, concrete tariff plan for South Africa's SNO.

Like Cara, I'll be pulling out the Champagne and having a toast to NeoTel. Especially since this is likely only the beginning and there have been sound, logical reasons why their offering is structured the way it is. Without another undersea cable it's impractical for them to provide us all with uncapped anything but already they've come in with a higher offering than other people.

I would have thought that since the majority of people here joined the site because of the way Telkom has been pillaging our country unchecked there'd be a little more happiness.

We've been moaning about not having competition for years and years and now when we finally have something resembling light at the end of the tunnel, the most common comment is "Oh no, that's not cheap/fast/efficient/amazingly astounding/UK standard for me. I'll just stay with Telkom."?

Really?

Sorry if that was a little rantish, I'm in a bad mood :)

And then Neo from the Matrix came to help us. I do believe he is the chosen one. I had been waiting 4 a moment like this. Bye bye telkom

I agree partly but lets face it, Neotel isn't trying hard enough to make this look unlike the Vodacom then MTN scene not long ago... maybe I'm just being harsh and they need to recoup their investment first, but their prices are still far from competitive on the international scale - even for a 'developing' country. It just looks like their attitude is much like everyone elses... let's not win over the consumers hearts, let's charge as much as we possibly can get away with.
