the contract is the only reason I won't sign up...
I called them up and asked when/if they would do away with contracts -> no idea

what happens when new Wimax packages come up, can I switch without being penalized, even though I'm staying with neotel -> no idea, but probably have to pay fee.
 
Here's a question that I wonder if Neotel have planned for..

Say I take out the contract, then cancel it halfway through and pay my R80pm*12 cancellation fee, but then sell my phone to a friend at R600 so I don't lose out on so much and he signs up with Neotel... is he required to pay the R80pm for 24 months even though he has a Neotel approved piece of equipment?
 
Another question, is it possible to share the connection like 3G sothat I can connect the PS3 to the net?
I'll be keen on the packages if this possible.
 
Pity about the device being USB. I want a wifi router rather, but R999 for uncapped is pretty hard to complain about.
 
R999 is a very competitive price.

I would like to know more about the finer details as well though. What's the speed, the shaping policies, is there a monthly threshold like with IS's uncapped offerings, etc, etc..
 
I still think their lowest offering is a bit on the high side. Many people wanting to upgrade from dial-up will have a Telkom line, and can get adsl for R199 or less. Yes, that's only for 1Gb and here you're getting 2.5Gb, but many people don't use as much as you think. And yes, R399 isn't bad if you include the voice side, but since the free minutes are on-net, and most people have a telkom line already, I'm not sure how popular it will be...

That said, it's great that they've finally launched!

I think NeoConnect Prime is 300-700 kbps, not sure about their shaping policies. It better be unshaped if I'm to sign-up. But I'll wait for a response from Vodacom b4 I jump ship.
 
R999 for bandwidth is unlimited but not only Interent but also include voice and SMS. Yes it is still very expensive and nothing new to me.
 
Well I will def be looking in to it. the contract not a bad thing. They have to guarantee that they will have customers so they bring the contract in. best way to guarantee that they have a monthly inflow.
 
If it is unshaped and i can do P2P i will sign up NOW ! My current 512kb uncapped with the Telkom line rental is over R2000 per month. Also when will it be avail in Bloem. Any rollout maps avail ?

I would sign up straight away if they add some sort of ethernet/router option to their offering.

Remember that the R199 does not include VAT and line rental. Thus You pay about R349 total for the entry level package. Thus for R50 rand more you get 2.5G plus a faster, unshaped internet connection (or so we are told)

I got caught out with that when I first had Telkom ADSL. Subsequently cancelled, now waiting for Neotel to hit CPT! Even still have time to get feedback from you guys..

Would like to know what the in/out bundle rates are for those packages. Not interested in those free on net calls & sms's.
 
Look, it's not mind blowing but it is quite a significant change. Vodacom, MTN and IBurst will feel some pain because of this. So we can expect some "competition" in the market. Telkom's position it harder to understand, they are entrenched, they suck, they are cheaper for people who need their phone more than broadband.

Here is a rough calculation:
WA all in one 384: 199
30 gig WA local (SAIX): 600
Phone line rental: 100 (+/-)

So that's R 900 p/m for a lousy line and lousy international bandwidth. IS was excluded because their local only bandwidth is a waste of time - my 56k modem is faster than them on a news server. Admittedly you can almost half the local only cost by using Axxess for SAIX.

For a pure speed comparison, lets keep in mind that a WA all in one at 4mbps is R 726 - with a whole 1 gig of unshaped bandwidth.

That makes an uncapped and AFAIK unshaped line that theoretically does 2.4 mbps for R 999 a fairly good deal.

I am seriously thinking about it.
 
well you can use a basic pc with windows xp and ICS so just get a low end windows xp pc with 128mb ram and like a 10 gig hard drive then load windows and enable ICS and get a switch not a router
 
unshapped and there is no restriction on P2P.

in all honesty, we have all been waiting for this and the pricing is exceptionally aggresive, so i am rather surprised by the general negativity :S
