Subscribers will pay a R1,500 non-recurring installation fee, and then a monthly fee depending on the speeds they want:

2Mbps at R999/month;
5Mbps at R1,799/month; and
10Mbps at R2,899/month.

Please explain how their LTE utilises such low speeds, and everywhere else in the world speeds are apparently between 50 - 100Mbps ?

Probably to save up spectrum.

By these speeds they can service more people in a given area.
 
Why not just call it uncapped HSDPA Also no coverage map there web site has not been updated in ages no mention of this there so no further details and again Neotel comes up with a great product that no one can find out anything about.

More than likely have to sign a 12 month contract for this since its Neobroadband

Its also still way more expensive than ADSL 10 meg uncapped

Damn, looks like I'll be stuck with ADSL for at least 4 more years. Just wish Telkom will give me 4 or 10Mbps already!
 
What are the upload speeds on this product? Also 10mb? Why is this cheaper than their wimax offerings and what options do current clients have with regards to changing from wimax to the lte product?

Cause it utilizes LTE technology and not HSPA technology.

The serivce is completely uncapped and unshaped, you'll find that a 10Mb uncapped+unshaped ADSL goes in the region of R2900-R3500 excluding Telkom line rental.

If they can guarantee the speeds this would be a great alternative to ADSL

You are not getting the full spectrum to burn uncapped. What they are doing is giving you a piece that is protected. Capped assumes everyone will not use the spectrum at the same time, but of they do the speed will drop significantly.

I.e. if you are on VC/MTN/8ta/Cell C LTE with a max speed of 100Mbps and 100 people all go online and download a set of large files at the same time, everyone will drop to 1Mbps (note this is an extreme oversimplification).

What they are offering is the end to end (local wireless, national and international) uncapped at x speed. Think of it as a replacement for Wimax and 802.11g/n WAN type fixed-wireless type services, not mobile.

LTE is a type of wireless technology, how you implement it can be VERY different. It is LTE, but they are going for the Fixed-wireless model. Like Wimax can be used in mobile roaming or fixed-wireless so to LTE can be used in the same fashion.
 
My question here is what market are they going for its definitely business not home use. They have several great business products now and no real viable home use products to compete against ADSL

I am in know way say the Neobroadand network is rubbish or a bad performing I have 2 Neoboadband 100 megs fibres in the office here and they are incredible

I just wish Neotel would offer products for the masses and not just release for the same market every time

The funny thing is now this product is competing against there wimax product which is more expensive so are they dropping wimax

Expensive... Does not compete with ADSL. ADSL still the best deal around if you download a lot. ADSL much more reliable as well. Crappy deal if you can get ADSL.
 
It says that it is uncapped and unshaped, then later is says there is a threshold limit as well as a FUP. I'm interested to see how much is this threshold limit for all the 2/5/10Mbps plans they launched.

Not bad, its a good deal if you got no ADSL in your area. I doubt Vodacom, MTN, Cell C, 8ta would launch uncapped LTE when ICASA hands them spectrum.
 
firstly using spectrum on the 1,800MHz band means it is not LTE. LTE is only for higher frequency, as I recall 1800 is nice and firmly in the HSDPA bracket of spectrum, not even HSDPA + or HSUPA, no the slow one. the one that caps out at about 5mb/s so that explains the speeds now for the cost.

uncapped mobile data, now you are competing with well, no one, sure go ahead and make up the price. unfortunately in order to not get ripped off by this deal you need to be using more than 60 gig anytime data in a month (on the 5 meg connection) to be cheaper than telkom mobile and then we are not considering the Free 60 that you get on that deal too.

so why get this deal? I dont have an answer but if someone can show me what I am missing please feel free....

The frequency doesn't determine the technology used.

LTE can be run on 1800MHz and is done so in many markets.

They are updating the wireless technology, LTE is getting more traction internationally than Wimax and thus will have more kit available and better long term support. Think of it like 3G to HSDPA or ADSL to ADSL+/VDSL
