Neotel network problems

Uh, actually, probably even earlier! I had to visit Neotel HQ in Midrand yesterday around 1500h, and was listening to one of the employees confirming to a customer that they were having network problems.

Even the speech side was affected when I called customer service around 1400 and they could hardly make out what I was saying - but that could have been my phone, which had to be replaced.

Hopefully, none of this is to do with Mr Panjay saying that the individual consumer side of the business was not a priority...

As of today, occasionally, the Network just disappears. Seems to come back when the phone is turned off and back on again.

Nope, this article's got the cat by the arse... Neotel is the problem, always have been. They just happen to own and manage the network in question.

To everyone that might be watching the thread, we've received comment from Angus Hay:

"Neotel experienced poor performance on some Internet services, localised in areas of Northern Johannesburg, between 03:00 and 13:00 on Friday 27 August.

"While there were no specific cable or equipment failures, the problems were traced to an uncommon software issue on core and access Internet infrastructure fed from the Megawatt Park point of presence.

Various customers in Johannesburg were affected, including some connected to Neotel's metro fibre network, as well those making use of a number of wireless basestations on the same network.

Partial service was available throughout the incident, with full service being restored in phases."

I've updated the article accordingly.
