As ive been telling alot of people, RSSI is a very poor indicator of signal. You need to look at EC/IO and DRC as well. EC/IO gives you signal quality. RSSI is an absolute measure of strength without regard to quality. So you may have a low RSSI indicating a strong signal but alot with alot of noise.
My EC/IO is hovering around -1. Before my amp it was -4 to -5, indicative of a very bad quality. Its ultimately the signal quality that determines your DRC (Data Rate Control) - the speed at which u sync to the tower. Have u used the EVDO pst to check out EC/IO?
