Neotel pricing under fire

The 2Mbps dedicated internet bandwidth probably inflates the price (since I assume it is guaranteed). How much does a simple 2 Mbps cost site to site, without internet connectivity (for inter office connectivity)?

Around 40k installation, and around 9k a month (depending on where). Way cheaper than the telkom equivalent - we're currently paying 5k for a 512k telkom line - but you should try something in between placing the order and receiving the service - like say, I dunno having a child......

Is this really comparing "apples to apples" here?

A quick look at the Telkom website for their rates, seem that they are cheaper, the Megaline stuff, BUT and this a major BUT, at Bronze level SLA. Do we know what that the Neotel offering is? I don't think so.

According to this source the cost of a 2Mbps fibre connection – which includes 2Mbps of dedicated Internet bandwidth – would be in excess of R40 000 a month. This, according to the business, is significantly higher than Telkom’s pricing for a similar service.

But what sort of internet bandwidth is it? Local/International? What sort of contention ratios are involved? And what is the SLA attached to it? IMO, the said customer needs to look at all these before signing on the line.

The TCO of the Telkom line could end up costing him/her a lot.

we always see articles saying that the price of broadband will come down. for 2 years now i have been hearing it.

yet here we still are, prices still as high as ever. and then when i see an article like this...

I ABSOLUTELY agree. I am sick and bl00dy tired of news articles on so many sites making promises of imminent price reductions in connectivity, but still, here we sit. Slow connections, bad service and probably the most expensive connectivity anywhere in the world. Same old ****. We all got our hopes up when we first heard of Neotel, but it's no competition to Telscum anyhow. They are just another wireless provider. There are (and were, before Neotel), many to choose from. Besides that, Neotel pricing is no better than Telscum. All a rip-off. We still have no competition in the market. Neotel (the "great savior") lied to us. Fail.

I agree, all I wan't and most SMME's need is a VALUE alternative to DSL, now is that too much to ask for?

Mods please do a IP check on Neotel, I suspect its a Telkom clone....:D

Oh, well spotted!!!!;)

40K installation?

We also contacted them for internet connectivity, as we are using diginet lines at the moment. We wanted to supplement our guaranteed bandwidth with some best effort service. They were not really interested in helping us.

i don't care for them anymore you can see them from far, but nothing near and usable
