Neotel pricing under fire

According to this source the cost of a 2Mbps fibre connection – which includes 2Mbps of dedicated Internet bandwidth – would be in excess of R40 000 a month. This, according to the business, is significantly higher than Telkom’s pricing for a similar service.

Neotel explained that when it quotes an enterprise client for a service, the service is specific to their needs. “We engage with the client, understand what their unique requirements are and then tailor-make the solution to meet those requirements,” said Neotel.

Their unique needs were to be ripped off. Hey that is every South African's right!!

I think that the issue here is that Neotel are putting their FTTx offering in a 'replacement for digicrap' space while most SMME's are looking for something that replaces uncapped DSL.

Those prices are very competitive when compared to a similar diginet based Internet access but I don't know of many SMME's who are buying diginet access in bandwidths that big due to the exorbitant costs.

When it comes to the case of the high cost of a dedicated 2Mbps fibre connection, Neotel said that they unfortunately did not know exactly what services and solutions were quoted on so could not comment. They did, however, encourage this business contact their Neotel account manager directly to discuss any price concerns they may have.

Wahahahaha - Sorry, the customer won't do that, the customer will go elsewhere...

hhmmm the dealings I have had with them, they do not sound excited about opening up for new business's especially to the SME market. No worries I am sure the cellular networks would welcome more business..

To be honest, my dealing with them have been less than successfull. First off it took over 2 months to get a quote out of them for a multiple site interconnect into an international network, then when i got the price (Excluding interconnect rates) i was flabergasted! For 5 sites, 1meg each, was almost a Quarter Million a month... at the moment we are paying an international ISP to connect us into our WAN and they are outsourcing to another international ISP who outsources to Telkom, and it is STILL cheaper! Judging from the blank stares we get from simple industry standard terminology, I think there is a severe lack of skills at Neotel.

The company I work for is currently busy replacing their countrywide digicrap wan from Telscum with a solution from Neotel about 20x 2Mb lines and 1x 10Mb line. The total saving 26%
Need to compare apples with apples, to get a good comparison.

lol... anyone remember when Vodacom and MTN were accused of price collusion years ago?

same thing now. So much for competition.

Let the VANS build their own networks.

Sorry Neotel. Sometimes all a customer wants is a simple 2Mbps fibre connection.

These people are trying to give Neotel their money and they can't even be bothered to come up with a quote in the space of two months. Imagine how poor the rest of their service must be.

“We engage with the client, understand what their unique requirements are and then tailor-make the solution to meet those requirements,”

Oh please...lame excuse really.
The only thing that can take some time really is the physical instalation. But simply setting up a quote?? Dont Neotel have software to say "click click.. heres your quote" ?
Hardly any kind of excuse.

Ha!

Typical marketing bull for : "We talk rubbish until the client is confused, and convince them to pay the highest price possible".

Wondering what one can do to aid Neotel's velocitus extramuralisation!:D

we always see articles saying that the price of broadband will come down. for 2 years now i have been hearing it.

yet here we still are, prices still as high as ever. and then when i see an article like this...
