Neotel pricing under fire

The 2Mbps dedicated internet bandwidth probably inflates the price (since I assume it is guaranteed). How much does a simple 2 Mbps cost site to site, without internet connectivity (for inter office connectivity)?

Sorry Neotel. Sometimes all a customer wants is a simple 2Mbps fibre connection.

These people are trying to give Neotel their money and they can't even be bothered to come up with a quote in the space of two months. Imagine how poor the rest of their service must be.

There's a slight difference in price between a Telkom 2Mb line (with a 6:1 international ratio- hence only giving you 512Kb +-) and Neotel's 2Mb 1:1 guaranteed international...

you have to compare apples with apples...

I think that the issue here is that Neotel are putting their FTTx offering in a 'replacement for digicrap' space while most SMME's are looking for something that replaces uncapped DSL.

Those prices are very competitive when compared to a similar diginet based Internet access but I don't know of many SMME's who are buying diginet access in bandwidths that big due to the exorbitant costs.

I agree, all I wan't and most SMME's need is a VALUE alternative to DSL, now is that too much to ask for?

Mods please do a IP check on Neotel, I suspect its a Telkom clone....:D

How difficult is it, to look at the specifics of a Telkom quote for a 2MB link, then get a quote from Neotel for exactly the same thing, and see if there are a saving?

Why can't Neotel or/and Telkom offer SDSL for SME's? It will be much cheaper to run than fiber or diginet, as their DSLAMs should support it in any case.

Why is Neotel perpetually on about "custom solutions" and "full value offerings" etc.
All the client wants is pure bandwidth access.
The ONLY question that needs to be asked is what is the split between national backbone and international traffic and then a quote should be able to be given.

Offering tons of "value adds" that no one wants with the solution is just making it less and less likely that someone will purchase it.

What Neotel describes as "Value adds" are not meant for the client, it is actually in reverse and meant to describe how much "Value" thay can extract from a client.

Here's an orange. Here's an apple. The apple is rotten to the core but perhaps this delicious orange will be....rotten to core.

I'll accept that since I'm not 100% sure about the details.

My criticism about the poor quality service stands. For a company that has publically announced that they will provide excellent service, a two month wait for a quote doesn't inspire confidence.

Our IT department gave up on Neotel. We contacted them for about 2 weeks to get internet access for our office.

Guess what Neotel? We got telscum lines. 3 year contracts with them.

If you just bothered to come back to us with quotes (we are in the coverage area) you may have had our business. But alas, you could not be bothered...

That doesnt quite pan out... in the real world we always experience maximum line speed on our "contended" telkom connection. Its all about the COS and how you prioritise, which affects the cost the most. Overall Neotel might be a bit cheaper, but i think the biggest complaint here is their terrible customer service and lack of technical skills. Also it appears as though they have cunningly slipped their price point in "just" below Telkom... rather than pricing on a cost plus basis. IE: Duopoly = Still massive profit margins and no real competition. However this is not strictly a Neotel thing, it appears that South African companies are getting more useless every year at this "customer Service" thing. Also, it appears that value of the contract has little or no impact in this regard. 2 Years ago i could call a supplier and arrange for a site visit and quote within a few days... nowadays i am lucky if they phone me back! I blame the skills shortage for this.

'It is therefore very difficult to compare two Neotel quotes or even compare Neotel’s prices to the incumbent, as it is not a set price list that predetermined solutions are bought from.'

Understood. So you quote - as stated - on a case by case basis. If a co. has to wait months to suck one from you it's an automatic fail. I have little hope for them based on feedback such as this. Seems messy unless they really pull finger to provide inidividual quotes ASAP to those interested. And what with 'African Time' and all it entails, I find this unlikely.

Agreed, its unacceptable.

I agree with you whole heartedly. I've been looking for someone/a company that is willing to give me a quote for built-in-cupboards, but it's been 1 month and no one calling me back......but anyway, that's another story! :o

ROFL you guys sound surprised? There will not be competition, or competitive pricing or better service as long as goverment does not open up the telecoms market 100%. Everyone on myadsl was hailing Neotel as our saviour from Telkom... meanwhile its just Telkom No. 2

You gotta love FailTel :D

They are just as kewl as there brothers over at No"kom"

sounds like they short on the skills front. likely too many ppl who r not too clued up, & the 1 clued up guy has a 2-month waiting list b4 he gets to ur quote...

Oh - I can tell you how bad....
