Neotel ready for Cape Town launch

Its because with ICS you have to control the connection through one pc and as such that pc must be on all the time. Also ICS forces your computer to be in the 192.168.0.X IP range and can cause difficulties when connecting many different computers/printers through a router. Having an ethernet device eliminates the need to control the connection from a dedicated pc and allows "everything" to be managed via the router. I am sure there are other resaons, but these are the biggest concern for me.

Only if you use windows to share your internet connection What do you think runs on that little "router"?

The people in Orange were in Century City today, letting people make phone calls from their devices, and answering questions.

Call quality was good, just pity that they only have a USB connection from the phone for internet. That sucks and is the only reason why I wouldn't sign up.

Can they really claim to have Cape Town covered if neither the city bowl or the Southern Suburbs have any reception?

We want coverage where the people have CA number plates!!!!

Also no ethernet device. Which would be fine if it was possible to upgrade to a ethernet device later.

And I simply do not understand their policy that you "bought" the device. Once your contract is done, whether you canceled it, or not renewed it, it simply turns into a brick. There is no incentive for a second hand market because there is no packages WITHOUT a device. You can't use it for anything else.

What would be interesting is the fact that most of ASA ,court decisions and ICASA regulations against cellphone networks/service providers should be relevant to Neotel, seeing they are using mobile technology. I think it is worthwhile for somebody to sift through all of that to try and force Neotel to come up with a more sensible device policy - my recommendation is that the device stays Neotel's, contracts are turned to month-to-month and they can give you a secondhand device. Pretty much like Telkom used to work with the phones.

Maybe Neotel should let us know how many of those USB modems they have so we can know how long we have to wait before bothering with their service.

They say that they've launched in Cape Town but no one thus far has indicated that they are using NeoTel!
According to the Coverage Map - Nothing in Cape Town is covered!

They had a stand at Canal Walk when I was there yesterday - my area (Parow) not covered yet. Can anyone using the product confirm that the phone is the actual modem aswell? Maybe post a pic of the device?

There have been quite a few reviews, some of them posted on MyADSL. You really don't need proof that the phone is the modem too. You will find pics of the device online.

Why bother launching?

Every day i check for orange patches on their map for coverage!
Why not let them latch onto Virgin Mobile?
