Call Neotel on 0800333636 or the Oakdale Postnet on 021 919-0248 for coverage. Neotel might be launching their Customer Portal on Monday, which will include a coverage map.

I phoned Neotel to find out if the Boston area in Bellville is covered. According to them it's not but they mentioned that the system will be updated next week. So many areas are covered but the system is not showing it untill the new updates.
This was confirmed at the oakdale Postnet office. By the way, this was yesterday (26 friday) at around 1pm. I asked the lady if they have been very busy signing up people to Neotel....the answer....I was the first person to inquire about Neotel. A bit "shocking or weird" as I was expecting a bit more inquiries as people have been begging for Neotel to roll out in CPT.
I wanted some more hardcore answers directly from the horse’s mouth so I popped around the corner to Neotel Head Office. There I spoke to a very friendly guy that was responsible for installing part of the network. The towers etc. He said there is a tower on top of the Head Office and another one being built on the Eskom building in Voortrekker Road. He also mentioned that they had a opening function at Grand West on Thursday night and the signal was perfect in that area.
So for all the Bellville guys things are looking good. Even though the system might say you are not covered, you most likely are. Let’s hope the system updates proves this right next week.

Most people don't really care about Neotel's launch. My mom, sister and fiance hardly know who Neotel are. Until a significant portion of people can go in to a shop and buy a device I don't think the majority of "normal" consumers are going to care much. I got bored of waiting for them to cover my area in Durban. I have bigger things to worry about than waiting 100 days (more like a decade!) for them to roll out services in my area.

so how can we know for sure whether there is coverage in our area? does neotel send guys out to test signal, or do they just look on their system to check whether theres coverage?
I guess i just have to go to postnet and find out..

The people in Orange were in Century City today, letting people make phone calls from their devices, and answering questions.
Call quality was good, just pity that they only have a USB connection from the phone for internet. That sucks and is the only reason why I wouldn't sign up.

can someone explain to me the difference between using an iburst usb connection and neotel usb connection? Basically i want to know the difference (pro's and con's) of usb vs ethernet. Would i be able to share the neotel internet connection with other pc's?

Yes, you'll be able to share your internet connection with other computers on the network using (ICS)....
Works exactly the same as iBURST just a different device and technology.
Its because with ICS you have to control the connection through one pc and as such that pc must be on all the time. Also ICS forces your computer to be in the 192.168.0.X IP range and can cause difficulties when connecting many different computers/printers through a router. Having an ethernet device eliminates the need to control the connection from a dedicated pc and allows "everything" to be managed via the router. I am sure there are other resaons, but these are the biggest concern for me.
