Neotel ready with SEACOM bandwidth

Wouldn't it be nice if they made that building in midrand a big hotspot where you could go and logon, buy 10gb of data (for like R10) and download whatever you want at the limit of your wifi card :)
 
This is actually a very nice idea...but I am sure a few PTAWUG techies will quickly filter that bandwidth onto their network :D

can't, it's not Legal....

I say keep the wug and internet seperate. each has it's good points.
 
What they don't mention is that they buy the bandwidth from seacom at Rx per month, then charge us Rx * 1000 per month to connect up to the Midrand datacentre.

RPM, how does the seacom termination work? Can any provider connect to the cable at the Mtunzini landing station (forget for a moment how the data is then transferred to the rest of the country) or do you HAVE to use the neotel link?

I though Seacom will be open access?

I'm not really convinced about that statement. Could they please add real numbers? adding 6 people to a 1 person network could also result in 600% increase. If they break the R100 for 1GB data all inclusive barrier, then I might jump on their bandwagon.

That is possible. If you have 1 client. And get 3 more. You literally triple your customer base. It's amazing, and the math ads up *goes off into another rant at how useless this article is and how it's just another marketing hype*

From what I understand Neotel have just extended the cable from Mtunzini to Durban. If you want to go directly to Mtunzini you can but if you want to access it in Midrand then you can connect to the Neotel data centre. Soon you will be able to do the same thing in CT.
 
Neotel is like the Zimbabwean Dollar, moerse inflated but no real value. what would be good is if we can get one of the neotel monkeys on one of these forums to give us some info on all our questions.

What I would like to know is if my ISP bought Seacom capacity today, will I see more value and/or decline in prices? Naaah, I didn't think so.

C'mon Laurie, Mr Cybersmart. do the right thing and buy capacity and lower your prices/increase caps. Be nice? Please?

Do any of you read the other articles which state the that the cheaper Seacom pricing is only if you buy bandwith from them for 20 years and that comparatively they are priced the same as the SAT3 cable which includes redundancy . Stop looking for unicorns.
 
This contract stuff is BS. 20yrs! WTF? I wonder if the Consumer Protection Act will protect these consumers that then resell to us...

That's actually true, because SAT3 international bandwidth dropped their prices a few months ago to be in line with Seacom.

However, the 20 year contract is a bit wonky, I think it's more like 5

But at what cost? How much are you paying neotel for their service vs how much does it actually cost neotel to provide that service?

I want to know just how badly neotel will be ripping us off :mad:

You can get SAIX (Telkom) broadband delivered to your door cheaper than you can get Seacom pipe from Neotel in Midrand.
Neotel is about 40% more expensive. :mad:

20 Year forward purchase ended last thursday as the cable is now live so only monthly or contract based purchase now
