So they control access to the SEACOM cable like Telkom controls access to the SAT3 cable? Damn...
 
Oh wait, so neotel is an experienced telecoms provider that they are going to manage the cable..?
since when are they experienced?
 
i have to agree with you guys here.whats the point of getting so much bw and features etc etc etc when you're average customer cant connect or is getting rediculously low speeds cos of a poorly setup network????

I do believe tho that in the next few months the QoS of these CDMA links should improve, but i have to admit that there probably will be some guys who will lose out big time.( ie full signal drops to 1 bar or nothing)

so at the moment i think neotel is trying to balance the burdens of extending coverage as well as optimizing existing base stations.

.....but what i want to know is why they didnt just setup some copper while they were tearing apart the roads all over SA.....surely this would have helped them out a bit now?
 
Ditto on many of the posts.

Neotel needs more coverage and a major QoS improvement. Only then can they start blabbering on about cheap bandwidth.

Personally, I'll stick with Telkom. Although their speed (384K) isn't anything to write home about, their ADSL is stable with low pings. When SEACOM lands, I'll bet that Telkom will juuuuuust undercut the competition in terms of pricing.
 
yeah, i just moved to JHB.sticking with Telskum and their Wimax offering (512k @ R240 no line rental + dsl line rental)

but i think by this time next year i could have some reason to move to some other provider

CDMA cell size decrease as more users connect to a basestation. So when you signed up, the cell was bigger than it is now, with less noise.

I can't repeat this enough - SEACOM does not have 1.28 TB/sec available . It is designed for max 640Gbps from SA and its switch on capacity is only 80Gbps - similar to SAT3.

Isn't the whole point that anyone will (in theory) have access to SEACOM? So they land their cable in Mtuzini and then peer into the local infrastructure, where any service provider such as WebAfrica, Mweb, Vodacom, MTN, etc. can use the SEACOM cable.

So while it may suck that Neotel's wireless solutions are less reliable than a 419 scammer, for someone like me who is on ADSL, it doesn't really matter... Right?!

That's what Neotel says about NeoConnect Prime

It's complete BS if you ask me.
20 - 30kb/s during the day, peaks at 50kb/s at night if you lucky.

Try downloading a game - I dare you... you'll wait a month for a game via Steam etc.

That's false advertising... I can't even watch a YouTube movie (or a movie on Flickr) without it stuttering like crap!

So here you are going the Neotel route after suffering at the hands of the Devil and you just get shafted by a company that is the devil's servant!

Pretty much, and I'm just being honest.

I'm actually in the process (with a few VWS members who are lawyers and they believe they can get me outta the Neotel contract) and if it is so... I'll make it public but they also want me to stick around for bit longer so I can build up a record (which I'm busy doing with speed tests, etc) should it have to go further (like court etc)

I'm also okay with this, because I want to be with Neotel, I believe they have what it takes to be the best, but right now... Telkom #2 comes to mind - only they worse.
 
excuse my ignorance but the article says that Telkom has already cut its prices ahead of the Seacom launch. Where did this info come from is it true? I am still paying the same prices WTF.

With some of the issues that Neotel is having in billing their own clients, I wonder how they plan on managing the landing station effectively :rolleyes:
 
* This looks to me like a report recycled from last year.
* IMO, there will be no affordable unlimited hgh speed internet, at least until the wold cup is over. Communications generated by this event, incl. TV, will put a significant demand on the cable and Neotel would be foolish to jeopardise transmission capacity to keep a couple of (video) game playing people happy.
