Neotel: smaller caps on cards

So now we are back with the Telkom abusers argument ... At least when Telkom floated it things like youtube, and online video feeds in every news source, weren't every day items .

6 months? How many years is it since the SNO was mooted. Neotel has had since then to get its policy ducks in a row. In answer to the first part, very few of us have applied for a SNO license. Those who obtained a SNO would be expected to be experts in their field. Did I not read somewhere that Neotel has a participant who set up a large network somewhere   If this partner learned nothing from their participation in that exercise then they should get out of the business.

Ok fair enough but do you remember when Neotel laucnched its consumer business? It was only in August 2008. Nowfrom August to January that gives you 6months of realistic consumer business operations...and they have managed to do quite a bit in that time frame. It's not about policies - those can be drafted quickly but getting the development done, SIT and UAT then piloting it first before launching it is quite a process. If those things are not done properly you get people complaining about billing issues.

Maybe if Poison Ivy didn't stall so much things would have been a lot better. Don't get me wrong I am not making excuses for anybody but be realistic!

This discussion is all about policy - The policy of pricing vs. bandwidth and speed. Surely product development doesn't suddenly start upon service launch?

Agreed, Ivy and Erwin have done nothing to improve the playing field for broadband, in fact very much the opposite.

YOu have to also remember that the product has to also be profitable i.e. ROI must be good. Besides, I don't think many CFO's would approve selling something below cost - espcially when you are a startup. Product development is the easy part, the supporting systems (w.r.t pre-paid & sometimes postpaid) need to be developed and from my experience with these systems, most of the time nothing is ever 100% ready @ launch or even 6months after launch.

If you ask any telecoms professional, there is no standard piece of software for everything you want to achieve - it is all customised according to the compnay processes.

Neotel has noted your feedback and we will be launching a lower cap NeoFlex Data product guaranteed!

:D

I dont get it. With all the new interactive content, gazillions of software updates, larger webpages and horror of horrors.. downloading, surely we should be getting bigger caps? High speeds just guzzle those inadequate caps in a much shorter period of time. The problem is somebody in this country seems to be obssesed with 3G caps. Do away with caps altogether! charge realistic amounts per MB and bill for what is used. Oh, and make sure that you can provide accurate users stats to go with the account!
3G.. how many linux distro's does it take to finish 3G?

The idea is to lower the cost of entry for those of us with smaller budgets.

Absolute cost is an issue for a lot of us.

I think in the long run, alot of people will get what they want and there will always be 'the few' who are just never happy - such is life.

True. Why pay for something you are not going to use. I'm not going to use 10Gig a month. At least not now. Let me start off with a small cap and as my needs increase, I will upgrade.

Seriously -WTF!?
I'll spell it out for 'em:
People want: smaller price && BIGGER CAP

10gb Is waaay too small for an office of 10-20 peeps.

WTF!- my sentiments exactly- i thought they made a mistake & were supposed to say bigger caps!
the worst part is when people here try to rationalise/justify this sort of acts- "they have to recover their investment costs" etc
ALL BULL - theyre just taking advantage of idiots like ICASA who are supposed to be a watchdog (that cant bark or bite)

I want a Neoflex data
I want to purchase the device outright
then signup pay access fee of R80 witch include 1GIG and after the 1gig is up i go out of bundle at 8c MB

This will be the cheapest broadband product in South Africa
