Now that neotal is officially launched. How about some feedback from the isp's like OpenWeb and WebAfrica. Have you contacted them? Can you guys buy bandwidth from them? When will it be out? How much cheaper is it? Is there international bandwidth available?
Anyone from Openweb and WebAfrica please comment
:) :) :)

I'm not from either of those ISP's, but don't you think we'd be jumping ship by asking too many questions too soon? It's time for consumers to make demands dude, we want to pay for everything we have now, half price to NEOTEL ;) heeheheheh

It will be a while before neotel starts their consumer broadband. So the only way neotel can affect us now is to offer wholesale bandwidth to isp's which is hopefully cheaper than telkom. so the isp's can in turn charge us less for bandwidth

Goooooood, but won't Neotel also be an ISP, like telscum is? I bet they will, so their wholesale prices will be based on their own packages, like telscum, so it's safe to say we are asking too soon ;)

lol, well its better than telkom providing the line and the bandwidth

Neotel has also launched its IP transit services – essentially wholesale international Internet connectivity for local ISPs.

I have to agree with linkinpark - I want to know what the ISPs bandwidth prices are going to be like.

Only UUNET and IS will have any benefit at the moment in the consumer market. My feeling though the bandwith cost will be exactly the same...they will be competing on service :)

Verizon and IS... UUNet was bought out by Verizon. Verizon SA is currently locked down by an Anton Piller order, so don't expect any statements on bandwidth anytime soon.

There is still the IP connect problem ie Big daddy telkom still in charge.

does't neotel (sno) have SAT-3 access, since they are shareholders, and won't ISP's be able to resell neotel bandwidth

received the following from an isp client who tried to enquire

When they answered the phone it took them a while

to remember what company they were.

Then when he asked to speak to someone regarding

prices. There was no one in that department.

its early days
(& telkom wasn't built in a day)

Their website (neltel) claims their broadband internet will be through CDMA2000 (3G), Just wonder how long will they take to erect towers before we see anything will happen

yup, like 350ms+ to first hop?
I know hsdpa is like 100ms :)

HSDPA is an evolution of 3G, so is this. Problem I have is it being wireless, so stability is not guaranteed. I wanna see fixed line ADSL from these guys, we already have enough wireless providers.

wtf, 3G? are u fscking kidding me? obviously they dont know majority of ppl like to play games online?

majority? i wouldnt say its a majority, but alot of people do yes. i would also like to see some fixed line broadband from the sno, something to compete directly with telkom

350ms latency is actually pretty pathetic and whether you're a gamer or not doesn't *really* matter. There are plenty of business-related activities which require low latency (quick response) times, which wireless just cant cut atm.

Definitely looking forward to fixed-line products from Neotel.
