Netbook

I am looking for a netbook to buy. I have narrowed it down to two:

1. Gigabyte Q2006 http://www.rebeltech.co.za/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=59&products_id=6855

Which one would you recommend and why?

Neither, because the price of both of those Netbooks have gone up in price by almost a grand
since they were first released.

If I had to choose one, it would be the Toshiba, because their construction is a bit better. Also,
the Gigabyte Q2006 you listed is "Out of Stock".

Have a look at something a little more powerful, like an entry level ultrabook.

Can I ask a question, "why a netbook?"

I have had 2 netbooks, one with 7" and the other 10" display. With a smaller screen there are limits to what you can comfortably do on it. Lots of websites are too wide to view without zooming out, and (I know you might not use Corel Draw, etc.) but designing stuff in Corel is a pain on a small monitor.

There is also the fact that a netbook is not much cheaper than a 15" laptop. So if it's portability you are after and you can live with a small screen then go for it. Otherwise think about it first before you buy.

I deeply regret the passing of netbooks after such a brief lifespan! They were cheap, robust, workmanlike and met the demand for portability from those for whom a tablet is awkward for doing 'real' work on the move. Ultrabooks are great, but double the price or more.

I bought a couple of Gigabyte Q2000 series netbooks for the sales guys at work and they were actually pretty good and reasonable build quality. The last one I bought had a dual core atom, 2GB Ram and a decent hardrive and was perfect for one of our sales reps.

The best netbook I have seen though is the HP mini 210 (think that is the right model no) which had great build quality, dual core atom and Windows 7 Pro (which was a big plus as we were using on a windows domain.)

I also think netbooks are great for certain situations at the right price. I often have requirements at work where what I need to supply the user is a cheap, low powered device and in many ways this becomes harder and harder to do.
