Netflix and Hulu+: A PS3 Setup Guide

does the signup process work with the Netflix and hulu apps on xbox?
 
I would choose the DNS servers based on the best PINGs.

Wonder if Unotelly would be any better than Tunlr since they have a local DNS server.

In my mind the streaming will be the exact same since the IP is already resolved by the time it's streaming. Hulu+ is rubbish on my PS3.

Works fine but you'll need a non-SA Live account to get the Apps.

I do find PS3 streams Netflix better than the Xbox though, quality wise.
 
Netflix and unotelly working like a bomb on my PS3. Just paid for my first months subscriptions after getting rid of DSTV and even with the way the rand is, I am still smiling

You're doing something wrong.
Either that, or you don't have enough bandwidth.

Hulu works a charm on my PS3. Same goes for Netflix, usually 720p is not a problem.

Make sure that your quality settings on either app is set to "auto". Let the app gauge your available bandwidth and stream accordingly.

Netflix works 100%.

But Hulu even when forced to the lowest quality still buffers every once in a while.

But now that you mention it I did have some line problems but I'm sure I only detected that much later.


Also on my iPad it always worked quite happily.

Ok, now that's a bit strange.
Have you tried deleting the app off your PS3 and re-installing?

Silly suggestion, but you never know...

Honestly, that is the only reason. However, it is my secondary server, so primary lookups are still quick.

You will want to choose a server that is digitally closer, all the undersea cables go through the UK so its the closest (not that the secondary matters).

If you want to add: BBC iPlayer is free and you can configure UNOtelly for each app, so you can set it up so that you get the US Netflix and still have access to the UK apps.

I use : Netflix, Hulu, iPlayer(free), Amazon prime, I also see that there is a new Sky app, looks expensive but the content looks amazing.

Also I recommend a line 4meg or faster.

A bit has changed since this guide was created :)

I did update my secondary DNS to the UK one, and I'm now running on a 10Mb line.
I do agree though that 4Mb should be the bare minimum for decent quality on your stream.

Hi GTR,

Yes, the apps must be installed on your PS3.
And as Nerfherder as pointed out, Wifi will work, but I would strongly recommend Ethernet, especially for when you're streaming in HD.

I've never tried it with Wifi, but I would imagine that the HD streams are data heavy (I use an average of 3-4GB a day, and that's just with viewing after work on evenings.
You would probably battle to maintain a decent rate of transfer on Wifi. Even if your router and PS3 are close by, the PS3 only supports up to 54Mb/s on the "G" standard.

Sorry, you asked "How" to install the apps, and not "If" the apps must be installed.
What a dumbass I feel like.

Once you have created a US/UK account, go to the "TV Services/Channels" tab on your PS3.
You will then see that you have an option to download Netflix/Hulu.

Create two accounts on your ps3, one for US and another for UK to get the best of both worlds. Once the apps are installed you can use one account as.your default as the apps of the other account will also.show up under.tv services.
 
Hey Guys I hope you can help me out here.. I tried Unotelly, but my WISP's upstream? blocks or changes the DNS back to default. Both Unotelly and my WISP recommended me using Unotelly'sVPN service.. This seems to be a bit more difficult what with needing two network connections on the PC side or am I missing something. Also will I be able to access Netflix or Hulu via the PS3 then? If yes, will I benefit from the better PS3 image with this setup? Not sure if I explained myself correctly.

Tried Netflix last night but everytime i enter my credit card details it says unable to process payment, i tried 2 different cards(both master card) and im entering a US zip code, anyone else had this problem before?

Hey ddrd.

I'm assuming you're trying to sign up after having UnoTelly setup already?
Have you tried deleting the Netflix app and re-installing?
 
yea trying after UnoTelly has been setup, ill try deleting the app when i get home tonight, thanks for the quick feedback.
 
no luck, still complaining about the credit card, i signed up with Hulu and its working fine so ill stick to Hulu for now
