Netflix could destroy DStv - MultiChoice

I appreciate DSTV these days, won't lie it's not perfect but it is not the worst service to have.

Netflix could destroy DStv - MultiChoice

MultiChoice said over-the-top (OTT) providers like Netflix, YouTube, Disney+, HBO Now, and Peacock pose an existential competitive threat to its DStv offering.

This statement was made as part of MultiChoice’s presentation at ICASA’s recent inquiry into the subscription television broadcasting services market in South Africa.

The Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA) launched an inquiry into the state of competition in the subscription broadcasting services sector in July 2016.
No, your fleecing consumers with archaic technology in your get-rich-quick scheme is what is going to pose an existential threat to you.

Same here. I don't watch that much TV, so DSTV works fine for me.

First it was VPN's blocking killing off proper Netflix for us, then Netflix came and gave us their watered down South African version, then DSTV cries, then Stella wants us to pay for tv licenses on our phones and now more DSTV crying.

This country, is the worst Soap Opera EVER!

Just got fibre in my area and I immediately canceled my dstv premium subscription. Sucks that I'm not gonna have access to the sports content but it was getting just too rich for my blood.

Well boo bloody hoo

Shame - not

Welcome to the world of competition
DSTv is way over priced and has always been.

I'd bet many viewers are lost to OpenViewHD too. It's a simple and almost cost free HD satellite service with zero monthly fees. The programming isn't bad either. Not perfect, but not bad.

Grow up DSTV you don't like competition.
You expect to milk the monopoly. Get real.

The only few types of customers of DSTV right now that I can think of, is your common everyday tannies who likes to watch "soaps" such as Binnelanders, Boer soek 'n vrou, etc.
The people who does not have a high speed internet connection available, can still have DSTV. (Boere op die plase, for one)
I know a few family members that have DSTV, but have basic internet for internet banking and e-mails.
And lastly, your sports fans.

DSTV is still big in SA, so why is Monochoice worrying about Netflix tramping them?
Unless M-Net decides to partner up with Netflix... ;-)
Then everything will crash and burn...

The sooner you realise everything in ZA is a copy (or knockoff) from either EU or US, since the 70s, the sooner you will see why monochoice is redundant.

Isolation and sanctions, it's the only way nochoice became what it was.

Think back to your favourite cartoons as a kid, likely dubbed. Think about all the shows currently on Dstv, where there is a near identical show, just respun for the "South African" market.

It's all just a cheap copy.

Thinking the politics and lack of interest around sport and especially rugby lately is killing their golden goose and the only reason for many to have DSTV
