Netflix on Android no longer working. Any workarounds?

Well thats what worked for me so the router dns uses unotelly dns that they gave no static routes and just block the chromecast device ip from going out to those dns

NECRO here, but this solved my problem after I got the ROKU's working but then my Android devices died.

What I did was to block 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 for the DHCP pool on my router(as ROKU can only get an ip from DHCP and not static) and then set a static IP along with the unotelly DNS servers on all Android devices. Netflix US working on all devices now :)

Pro_Tip: always fully reboot a device when changing DNS in order to flush DNS records or else it will still fail to work - learnt this the hard way
 
Is this still needed now that netflix is in SA?
 
My problem :
I have a problem with the Netflix app on Android. I am using the US netflix. I have blocked Googles DNS on my router so that my chromecast can work. That's all good.

Now on the android app itself I can't play any content unless I change back to South Africa. I get some time error on the Netflix app. I have the latest version of the app installed. Is there a solution that will allow me to play content on my tablet and my chomecast using the US netflix?

Hi all. Any advice or a link on how to block / reroute DNS on Chromecast on a Tenda router (free from Cool Ideas) I think it's a R465 model. Am struggling to get the Chromecast blocked on 8.8.8.8 as the format required is :
Start Port - End Port Private IP Protocol
Am not sure which ports to set up and block/redirect ... Found the Chromecast and have assigned it a static IP, but appreciate any assistance the more experienced can provide.

DNS operates on port 53 only - so start port = 53 and end port = 53

IP would be 8.8.8.8 I would imagine (8.8.4.4 in your second block rule)

Yes I have both 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 blocked on my router. Now what must I do next? I have a netgear router.

Set a static IP and the Unotelly DNS settings into your android devices (use an IP not in the DHCP pool to avoid conflicts).

Also, when you blocked those 2 IP's, did you specify an internal IP address range or your whole network? You must only block LAN IP's in your DHCP pool

Hi all - okay the free router (Tenda 4g630) that was thrown in by fibre provider does not have routing .... Will have to connect another older router from the archives.

Chromecast works well with SA Netflix (close location of servers of course)

Interestingly, I used my iPad and HDMI cable with Netflix on SA and US stores using Daredevil (common to both stores) and the US version was shocking ... Unotelly settings/routing kill some serious speed and of course Netflix doesn't then scale up to the right quality. (50mbs fibre, Vumatel, CoolIdeas ISP - gets cut to about 20mbs with Unotelly router DNS settings ... !!!) SA version was fine on both iPad and the working Chromecast connection.

Will see what the other router delivers as far as routing the Chromecast past the 8.8.8.8, but suspect I may be stuck with Netflix SA as poor selection is okay when compared to poor quality picture which is never acceptable.

Will let you know tomorrow when I dig out the old Billion router (I can have that connected in Series to the Tenda LAN, right?)

Plugged in an old Billion router with better routing settings and was able to block 8.8.8.8 and 4.4 traffic and bazinga! Working.
Using the Chromecast (rather than he I connection on iPad) resulted in HD streaming (after the requisite startup in blurry/SD)
So I have HD quality and US selection... Win win

Hi there peeps

My Chromecast on my TV has stopped working on non-SA region shows (after almost a month of working well from my last post). Despite all the Netflix vs VPN issues, Unotelly still works well on my ipad .... however one doesn't want to just watch Netflix just on an ipad.

Any suggestions - I see that Unotelly router page has been updated on 26 Feb, but no changes actually made on the Chromecast setup.

Any ideas ... or a response from Unotelly rep?

I've scanned through all of the other Unotelly/Netflix page (http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthr...ack-suggestions-and-general-discussion/page34) and didn't see anyone with a Chromecast specific problem.
 
My chromecast had issues this morning on unotelly. It works again now, try again remember to block google dns or reroute or a combo of those settings.
 
Hi Vegeta - did a reboot of router and chromecast and no luck .... any other ideas. My router has blocked 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 and all settings still in place - just stopped working in these last week or two.
 
Same here CC is blocked now. Another dns or vpn provider perhaps? Other devices work
