Netflix versus ShowMax

Does anyone know how much gig internet per month will be used to watch some movies. Because now people will have to up their data usage.

I chew through around 12-16gb per 12 hours of viewing, or thereabouts.

Will be interesting to see how Showmax/Naspers face up to this challenge from Netflix. The service from Netflix is only going to get better and they have demonstrated an ability to be very innovative and forward thinking. The amount of quality content they have created in the last year is phenomenal.Naspers can't compete with that and it looks like they will have to use their trump card(sport).

That's great if you want to watch a show in your phone or tablet, but most people will want to watch shows on their TV, and so far Showmax has really failed with this. I would love to watch Showmax, but I currently have no way to watch it on my TV, so it doesn't make sense for me to subscribe.

I paid R640 for my Android box. I have a Mtn Uncapped connection at home, no adsl support. At 35KB/s this feature will work for me. :)

Why is it that this is the only article on the front page where the disqus comments doesn't seem to load...?

If memory serves you can download and then start viewing anytime, but once you've started watching something you downloaded you have 48 hours within which to finish it.

The download features aren't really aimed at people with home broadband connections. They seem to be aimed at folks without broadband at home. You download your shows/movies to your smartphone at work or while on a Wi-Fi hotspot (OntapTV and AlwaysOn launched a special deal for this), and then you can watch them at home.

I'm watching you :D

Have you perhaps tried to check out Telkom Mobile's latest uncapped LTE deal, you might be lucky to be in one of the areas covered it'd be a HUGEEE upgrade for you

I was thinking about getting Netflix yesterday.
I tried really hard to get it running on my mini PC running Kodi (inside Kodi)
and then I decided to just watch whatever I want without paying any subscription costs.

Movie and TV companies make WAY too much money anyway....

ARRRR

As with everything else, I am the last stop on the map lol. I must confess, I am on my neighbors 5mbps Bronberg Wisp connection, so not completely on the Mtn uncapped. But that is a contract I will never cancel. December in the caravan at 7PM it started raining cats and dogs, me and the family safe inside watching YouTube vids. Just so lekker. :D

Slightly offtopic, but does Netflix charge your credit card (and then reverse immediately) when you sign up for the free trial?

I did not see any charge when I registered for the free trial, so I think the answer is no.

Is there anyone who is still using the Telkom Entertainment bolt on for R99 to watch Showmax? I understand the Showmax data does not count against your data cap, which seems like a huge plus in favour of Showmax.

I read somewhere that Android boxes - not sure if all - can't have HD?

Do I understand this correctly? I cant run Unotelly DNS and SHOWMAX at the same time?

Nah - they just hold onto your details and if you don't cancel at the end of the trial they charge you for the following month.

I don't see why you shouldn't be able to. Netflix and Showmax are two different services.
