Netflix versus ShowMax

Yeah, I saw, thanks. Sad we cant use it as a media server and stream to watch on TV. Not one for watching movies etc on my PC.

Set your laptop by your tv via hdmi.My laptop is permanently connected to my tv in the room. Its my media server for the other tv in the lounge.

That's a real pain in the arse though, and a waste of a perfectly good laptop.

Has anyone bought a Minix Android media player? Like this one:

I might be tempted to replace my ROKU with it, seems to be much more flexible than a ROKU.

I have a Roku and an Android TV Box (Cloudgate Circle). And it's true that the Android box is very flexible, can do much more in comparison with the Roku.
The only thing is the Android control isn't as great. With the Android box, I had to buy a air mouse. It's like a Wii controller, where you move an arrow around on the screen. Though it works, it can be irritating when navigating Netflix.

The Roku remote is just great.

My money goes to NetFlix. Showmax's content licensing will eventually expire and then Naspers will hopefully get what they deserve.
First ripping us off on DSTV and now taking us for fools. Support local my @$$.

So my trial ending last night. #sadpanda

Due to US time zone diff it was a good deal into the 7th Feb.

Now I get this:

Just before trial ended I binged all 8 epi's of Real Rob...was cheesy but funny.

His got a hot wife...

Anyone else catch/like the show?

Why don't you just subscribe?

BTW - not everything in life needs to be screenshotted ;) :p

My one friend uses Tvunblock.com to watch US Netflix. Apparently free.

Hey now I like to screenshot bro

Anyhow I'm not subscribing to Netflix as I still have a R199 DSTV jobbie that's get use; I have R99 ShowMax that works well Ito of variety & offline dl's (I can DL offline at work & during Telkom Night Surfer) + fixed local currency price for now; R99 is really nothing. All other new content I get from KAT.

I don't have an uncapped account so for my needs R199 DSTV + ShowMax (mostly offline) + KAT = my winning combo

Netflix is great though; if I move to an uncapped line in the future I may consider resubscribing.

As always YMMV

I still have Showmax for another two weeks, started to rewatch The Sopranos, quality is actually really good.

Netflix. 1-month trial expiring tomorrow, but will continue.
Have not tried Showmax. Not keen on sharing cc details for 7-day trial and poor stream quality of free episodes.

Like Netflix profiles. Seperate profile for five people, including kiddies.

My 7 day trail of Showmax ends tonight. Also signed up for 1 month Netflix trial. Showmax does have more content but most is old and general look and feel is OK. Netflix overall look and feel is much better. It's easier to add to your watch list. I like the separate profiles, control of playback quality and parental control on Netflix. Showmax lacks here. On the other hand the Netflix option that allows more than one device is significantly more expensive than Showmax. I will probably buy a Showmax voucher with my ebucks for the rest of the month and then decide - I haven't watched very much in 7 days. I'm not looking at subscribing to both.

BTW I'm on a 2 Mbps line. Streaming quality on both is very good. SD obviously. Low quality on Netflix is also not too bad.

I've been a Netflix user for years already, and started using Showmax a few weeks ago. I have to say that I find the Showmax UI very frustrating compared to Netflix. It's still too clunky, they need to do a lot more work on it.

With a 2mb line running a second screen would be problematic.

Of course you could share your account with a second party and recoup half of the monthly subscription that way.

Haven't tried Showmax's support yet, but after just dealing with Netflix's Live Chat support I can say it is absolutely brilliant.

Briefly I noticed that money was still being deducted from my account even though I cancelled my subscription. Went onto their Live Chat and it was sorted out in less than 5 minutes with refund on the way. PS, it was not a error on their side but mine (i.e. somehow I had a created duplicate account).
