Last week I bought myself a Netgear WiFi Extender. It is the WN3500RP. I also have a Netgear DGN2200 Modem/Router. The router only operates in 2.4GHz and the Extender operates in both 2.4 and 5Ghz. So, ATM, the extender is connected to the router at 2.4GHz, and the extender transmits SSID's at both 5 and 2.4GHz. I have set my router to allow up to 300Mbps on the network rather than only up to 145. Does this make any difference to the network? There is a 30-40% signal strength between the router and extender which isn't that bad, and most of the time the signal from the extender to the device is around 80%.

Now the problem is: Speeds when browsing (on both the 5 and 2.4 Ghz networks created by the extender) is terribly slow, while speeds on my main router's network are fine. And sometimes, pages just won't load at all. My browser will just hang with 20% of the page loaded until I physically refresh a couple of times. Surely this shouldn't all be happening! The extender cost R2k and is at the top of the Netgear range, and 40% signal is surely not that bad. I understand that speeds will be slower when connected to the extender, but its seriously frustrating that so often pages don't load altogether!

Here are the details of my home network. The two "ext" SSID's are coming front he extender.
So is there maybe some settings that I need to adjust? Or could this be related to Telkoms recent countrywide ADSL problems?
Also, will speed be affected if I am connected to the 5GHz network emitted by the extender as opposed to the 2.4?
