Netogy Nova Feedback

Finally bought the Nova, totally loving it. However though, I'm disappointed that the UI hasn't changed from the previous Android version.

In my case I like the fact that the UI is consistent with my Shield TV. I use similar settings on both so switching from one device to another (different rooms) is seamless.
 
Hi guys

I just got the Nova over the weekend coming from a Mi Box
But now when I plug in my external HDD and browse the folders in VLC player, most of my series folders show up empty, when on my PC they show and play as normal.

Does anyone know what is happening here?

And if you use file commander? Are you able to see the files?
 
Alright, I managed to fix it

I went into app permissions and restricted and then re-allowed folder access.
cleared cache and app data
VLC then re-added the HDD to media library
And now I can see all folders and files. :)

Hope this helps if anyone else has an issue

This happened on my Shield TV too. Android periodically removes app permissions when you do not use the app in a while. I also had to reset the folder/media access permissions in VLC recently.

So keep in mind that you may have to do this from time to time...
 
I'm slightly disappointed the Nova can't do DTS at all, not even normal 5.1

What app?

Netflix is discrete 5.1 and dependent on the app, I get Dolby Atmos (ie Apple TV).

DTS no streaming uses and I never tried

Are you running Plex/Kodi with your backups?

I mean it's understandable that they only support whatever streaming sites do, so your normal Dolby Digital+ and what not but I thought surely something as old and basic and just plain ol DTS 5.1, no Master Audio or anything fancy just the normal DTS Core 5.1 would work but nope, it just gets sent as stereo.

So you’re own files via Plex?

It’s not quite fair to say doesn’t support 5.1 when it does that - and higher - on pretty much the mainstream apps.

What does support DTS, Master etc?
 
Yes my own files via Plex.

I never said it doesn't support 5.1, it does but Dolby 5.1 and as you said even Atmos works on some apps but not DTS, not even the basic version that has been around since at least the mid 90s.

Bluray still uses DTS but the streaming services are all Dolby.
