I meant what were you watching/listening to?Via HDMI on a Samsung 55" Smart TV speakers
I was watching Netflix on the Netogy NovaI meant what were you watching/listening to?
I thought you had watched a specific show on both devices to notice this different.I was watching Netflix on the Netogy Nova
I was watching Netflix on the Netogy Nova
okay .... I have been using the Nova for around one and a half months now and i am 95% satisfied with it - only missing Dolby Vision and proper surround sound including the DTS-HD (and DTS-HD master Audio) but i don't have a surround system any more so the audio thingie is not so important for now
Kodi is still my preferred local file app player of choice as well as streamer with add-ons instead of having to use some other app - and while there are still minor problems i don't think a player exists that will give you 100% (even including the Nvidia Shield) and IMHO only the very latest android or even newer "Google TV" boxes are going to be better than the Nova .... i reckon even the shield is not going to be 100% due to its age so there will be boxes with newer operating systems or other hardware features
The files that don't play properly well they are few and far between - and the player solves more issues than it creates in terms of that particular point - the biggest advantage is that it does play the 100s of MP4 encoded 4k files that i have on my hard drive as opposed to the previous android box that i had
Right now i am also using a G8 Microserver as an HTPC and even though that has a decent graphics card it isnt good enough for 4k playback but using UPNP or SMB i can actually share the 4k files using the microserver as a NAS and play the locally stored 4k files via the Nova with almost zero issues which is truly appreciated because trying to play those files on the microserver is not going to happen ie slowdowns and stuttering and juddering and glitching is what i get with direct playback on the microserver and those issues are non existent even with an inefficient sharing solution like UPNP on the Nova
But yep while new boxes are being released almost monthly i am enjoying the Nova which is pretty decent for a locally produced Item and it is IMHO well worth the R1200 i paid for it at Makro if i manage to use it for at least a year ..... definitely money well spent on an item that LARGELY outperforms what i had before this (Mecool KM2 which is a rebranded Skyworth Leap S1)![]()
For locsl files I use VLC from a Samba Share on my PC, the Netogy Nova is a pretty good box. Not in the market gor a bew nix for my own use, but am going to wait vefore I buy a nox for my Foster Son. The new Mi-Box is due soon, either that or the Netogy Nova.
the new gen Mi-Box still doesn't have ethernet - and if you really want ethernet then you have to use the single USB port with an USB to Ethernet adapter but other than that the new gen Mi-box hardware specs and software look goldenso if you have a wi-fi mesh system at home then the Mi-box might be a great solution
also in my post up above i forgot to mention that the Nova has significantly noticeable better image quality in the video playback compared to the Mecool when playing the exact same files over the same app - possibly because the Nova has the stronger GPU and CPU too
Well aware that the Mi-Box only has a single USB port, but if ethernet becomes an issue, I have long had a few UGREEN 3 port USB hubs, with ethernet port, in the drawer, due to having a few RPI Zero's.
Well, locally supported … but yeawhich is pretty decent for a locally produced Item
It will be on the makro system under the makro card used to make the purchase.well sadly my Nova just shat itself and stopped working - i tried the PSU on my Mecool KM2 and that seems to be working then i tried the Mecool PSU on the Nova (it works on the KM2) but the Nova just does not power up ..... my big problem is that i can't find that Makro invoice - i thought i had left it in the Nova packaging but it isn't there - so now its a huge problem ..... Makro wont just take it back and accept that i purchased it at Makro even though they probably have a serial number on the invoice and they are supposed to have a copy of it anyway - but i reckon they won't find it in a month of Sundays given that they would have to look through millions of invoices to find it
whats the odds that Nology will honor the warranty and fix it?
for now i'm using the KM2 and that is an unsatisfactory solution because the Nova gives a huge jump up in image quality and plays files that the KM2 cannot

okay - so went in to Makro and handed the Nova in - they say that they should get feedback from Nology within 10 working days - hope that this gets resolved because the Nova is fairly better than the Mecool KM2 in terms of image quality - the video looks so much better (even the 1080p) [i suppose due to the stronger CPU and GPU in the Nova] and this issue was totally sudden ie i was playing a video and put it on pause to go and get some snacks/food and when i came back it was totally just switched off and refused to come back on (the advice from Nology support did not work) so i hope that that it is something that can be repaired
and yes the both posters up above are 100% correct - they managed to pick up the invoice from the card details
have to say though that i am alarmed that this type of issue can present within only two months - i have been using the Mecool for almost 2 years now .... though i suppose if its something that is easily repaired then i suppose no harm done
Yup - at the factories they work on a certain number of failures of any consumer electronics. No manufacturing process is perfect. There can be out of box failures even.
