Hello all,
Recently signed up for iConnect uncapped 50Mbps. When it works, it works, but it disconnects wayyy too often
The following errors in the router's log at random:
- ppp0
- LCP Down
- Timeout waiting for PADO packets
- ppp0 User Request
Connection setup as follows:
1) PC LAN connected to TP-Link Archer C2 Router.
2) TP-Link Archer C2 Router connected to Netstream ONT (optimal network terminator)
3) ONT connected to Netstream Headend switch (by Fibre)
4) Headend switch connected to Wireless dish (we have an interim wireless connection to the ISP)
5) Wireless backend to iConnect authentication server
The wireless is a black hole for me (no visibility on logs or information), and in the process of being replaced by Fibre.
The connection is set up via PPPoE with a fixed IP, and no other special features.
Symptoms;
Large files such as videos / movies and downloads complete successfully and stream quite well with disconnects now and then. Intermittent internet browsing works and is quite fast when the connection is established, but is also prone to frequent disconnects. Playing any online games would result in frequent disconnects as well, but is more noticeable for obvious real-time reason. (its latency that gets us killed right?
)
The router log shows the errors above. In some cases the connection re-establishes automatically. In other cases the router and ONT would have to be restarted to establish a new connection.
In some cases the failure is bad enough to return "Invalid password", yet 2 minutes later connects perfectly fine with the same credentials untouched.
The following has already been done to troubleshoot:
- Tested with Asus AC68U Router and the 3 latest versions of firmware
- Tested with the iConnect supplied router
- Tested with a basic HAP to prove connectivity
- Tested the connection directly into PC via PPPoE config
- Re-cabled the home install on suspicion of fibre cable failure
- Re-cabled the switch drawers
- Re-aligned the wireless dish
- (switched off and on too
)
We're now testing with iConnect monitoring the line from their side to pick up any useful information.
The weekend has been semi-acceptable with roughly 4-5 connection drops. (roughly due to one potentially being a power outage)
Thanks in advance...
