Network Extending please help!

Okay... so... I have received multiple verdicts from several people and split right down the middle. Even though wireless seems to scare me, I am almost tempted to go for that option as it is the simplest.

I measured the premises today, and the total length that I need to run from our server to the room that requires the connection, is 45 metres, of which 15 is outside and 30 inside. It seems a waste to switch to fibre just for 45metre and one computer?

So if I do wireless, I need two CPE's pointing at eachother and Cat5e running inside.

And if I do Cat5e all the way, I need to ensure it is shielded, and within a conduit, with 3 cables and surge arrestors between the switch? Also, as long as the conduit is waterproof, it does not need to be underground does it? Over the alley is fine?

If you don't want to do fiber then forget about the copper route and go with wireless if it's only a single PC.

Have a look at the Ubiquiti NanoStation units from Scoop Distribution.

Simple, cheap and easy to set up would be STP cat5e.

More expensive ,faster speeds and less EM interference would be fiber.

Medium expense, medium speeds, WiFi.

What are you looking for?

What switches are in use?

If it has space for SFP modules thats not being used. Go for Multi Mode Fiber.
If it doesnt use a shielded Cat5e.
