Network problems affect Cell C customers

I am having the exact same problem. I am on MTN and my wife is on Cell C. Calls are dropped continually. Getting lots of crossed lines and calls where there would be no sound. It's extremely frustrating as sometimes I would have to call up to 5 or 6 times to actually get through to her!

Which area are you in?

For anyone interested in the full details, I've documented it in the following blog post:
Dead calls & crossed lines between MTN & Cell C subscribers

Thanks, Saajid. I've linked to your forum blog post and your site from the article as well.

Thanks Saajid this info could come in handy. I have to say that the last couple of days I have not had any problems...maybe my problem was fixed along with yours! If that is the case then many thanks to you!!!

If you are on MTN and can't call Cell C, then MTN should resolve the issue or make other parties aware of the problem.

However noting that Cell C to MTN calls work, Then Cell C should not need to bare responsibility.

Basically who ever you pay, for the call should fix the problem.

I Had the same issue with Telkom not being able to call VOX 087 numbers.
But Vox was able to call Telkom numbers with no problems.
Therefore Telkom should bare responsibility, but they did not and Telkom advised to contact VOX.

When explaining to Telkom that I pay them (Telkom) for the call and therefore it is their responsibility to rectify, only then did the penny drop.

Sorry for Hijacking the thread, just posting my past experience, In a nut shell this is MTN's problems and not Cell C.

Bringing me back to Cell C's comment which I stand by 100%

"The customer should raise the issue with his or her current network provider. It is the responsibility of the network provider to investigate the matter and if necessary take it further with the customer’s previous/former network provider."

I am in Orkney, North West.

I guy from Orkney who knows his "continually" from his "continuously"? I am impressed (despite being a pedant)!

OT: The number of "dead calls" and crossed lines is about the worst aspect of the CellC offering.

I've also experience the problem - Southern JHB
Me MTN, Wife Cell-C (ported from MTN)
When I try to call wife, calls don't seem to connect, just goes silent.
Sometime need to try 5-6 times to get thru, other times it connects first time.
Haven't experienced crossed lines.

Hopefully the MTN change/fix will work.

my brother and I had this same problem, I phoned him (I am CellC, he is MTN) his phone rang, but when he answered we were both connected to different calls. it was very strange, but rooting problems on MTN have happened (to me) before.

One thing I took out of this is Cell C readily admitting where they were at fault. Can you imagine how long it would have taken MTN to release a comment if it were on their side??

I have a similar problem. Some (not all) users on MTN can't get through to me (number previously with MTN, now with Cell C).
They only get:"The number you have called is not available on the MTN network"

This sounds like a porting issue - looks like your number (or certain services attached to it) is sitting on both networks. You should contact Cell C customer support on 084 140, and ask them to check it out. They will probably reset your porting and routing.

Thanks, looks like a porting problem indeed.
The person who tried to call me from a landline was calling from a ported Telkom number, not sure which network they're on now.

Our landlines at work were recently ported to Neotel. From here, the line sounds like it is ringing but my cell does nothing.

It is bad practise to convey a message in such a manner. Such a problem can be on any side. if MTN fixed it that means the problem was on there side. Most networks do upgrades and the impact is not immediately visible. that is why the networks are partners in that regard. Cause it is all about the customer.

sorry to bump up this thread
but ive been experiencing problems from cell c to mtn and mtn to cell c from last night.
I cant hear them, but sometimes they can hear me. And when I speak I hear myself through the earpeice.

im not sure if its the same problem as in the OP, but it does seem like it. As it only happens with cell/mtn
People have complained in the past about getting the number does not exist message when calling as well in the past
I have a number on the RBM cell c network that has been ported from MTN. Im in the Centurion area.

anyone else experience problem today??
