Network problems cause hassles for Telkom

Telkom recently switched over to Vodacom's infrastructure for roaming, allowing its customers to roam on Vodacom's 2G, 3G, and 4G networks where available.

This roaming deal includes seamless handover, which means that Telkom customers should be able to move between networks without calls or data sessions being interrupted.

These problems are not going to go away.

They are here forever.

Good Luck to those using Telkom expecting to use the Telkom Mobile Data.

The only people I feel sorry for is the People in the Township who purchase Telkom Mo-Nice Data and they cannot use.

Telkom use to be nice and since they cannot acknowledge their problems and what the customer needs there will no need to sort this problem out any time soon.

I have decided these guys are going down because they take poor decisions that negatively affect their customers.

Sipho Maseko was doing a good Job at telkom but I think it has gotten to his head now.

You have at least one fact wrong. Sipho never did a good job. All he did was feed anc friends (Bain, for example) and stuff up quality of service to the current levels.

Unfortunately Im one of those my friend, you buy 450GB Night (a month) Monice data and you are lucky if you manage to use it for 10 of those 30/31. Telkoms network is useless these days

Vodascum wants to destroy Telkom because many people moved away from vodacrap because of high data prices, vodacrap R149 a gig for +-15 min YouTube madness, goodbye telkom big data deals, goodbye affordable data, the vodacom worm has entered telkom network to close them down so shareholders of Vodafone can cash in the euros at the expense of South African people

Yes this is correct !

There are a number of ways to circumvent these issues – such as buying All-Net data or turning off roaming – but it is not the end of customers’ troubles with the Telkom network.
Turning off roaming does bugger all, do you guys not get this? :X3:

Clearly it's in Vodacom's best interest to sabotage this arrangement.

This is not correct @Bradley Prior we sometimes get connected to TelkomSA-R even when roaming is turned off and there is a good TelkomSA signal, and then have no connectivity. Willing to give me your number so I can call you so you can come check when it is happening at Route 21 Corporate Park or at Menlyn?

The problems are definitely not resolved. I have resorted to being on my home WiFi for the past 3 days. #Telkomsa and #Vodacom there is definitely a serious issue that you are clearly not aware of.

Same with me and Telkom... As soon as I go over to H or 3G, no connectivity. Only time I can connect if it goes back to 4G. Crazy

The following are my personal views and they don't represent Telkom, I really don't understand why certain telkom customers complain, I have been using this network for quite a while and I'm not saying there isn't any challenges I've encountered, I have but it was my choice to use the network no one forced me, I have another number which is an MTN one it's not perfect either but I don't complain, and the sad part about people that complain is when one buys a "telkom data" there is always always a message that advices customers that whenever the network is Roaming please be advised that telkom data will not be available, if you want to connect you can also buy a, "All network data", so I don't get logic behind the complaint seriously, funny enough same customer don't compliment telkom on being cheaper on data for e.g one is able to buy a 2.75G for only R39 lasting 2weeks and 7G for R79 for 30 days only on telkom data, which it is not always roaming its only occasionally when these problem arises, for those who don't know how to buy this very affordable data please dial " *123#" on your mobile and choose Mo'nice and enjoy this stop complaining always, like I said in the beginning these are my personal comments and views not that of telkom, however I feel let us give credit where it's due and stop to only concentrate on the negatives.

First, learn to use full stops.

Second, people are complaining because roaming doesn't work the way it should.

Third, mo'nice deals are a crap shoot - you can't guarantee what you'll get - so they're not worth mentioning as far as incentives go.

Four... did I mention full stops?

Look here, I have had 8ta (now Telkom) contracts since 2011, so I understand it very well. Telkom was great and I'd easily recommended it over the years, but it now stopped being great.

Starting in June, my tablet that I use as a hotspot started connecting to TelkomSA-R network very frequently (instead of TelkomSA), even when roaming is turned off and I am in urban areas with good Telkom signal. So now even though I have over 10GB of Telkom data available I cannot use it, in places where I have been using it for many years.

Do you now understand the issue? If you don't, then rather don't comment on what you don't understand, just ask questions for better understanding.

Forgive my ignorance and lack of understanding ... Why can't you use that 10GB of Telkom data?

Because it is connected to the TelkomSA-R network, which means it's roaming on the Vodacom network, despite roaming being turned off, and it thus doesn't throughput data and I just get repeated SMS about being out of data bundle and that I have to buy more data.

It's frustrating... Telkom works great on LTE here in PE, but whenever I drive to Humansdorp I get OOB notifications and no connectivity. Even when you disable roaming, force connectivity to the aforementioned tower the problem solving still continues.

That's bizarre. If I understand you right, buying more data won't help because Vodacom knows nothing about your Telkom account.

If I buy an all network data bundle (which can roam) on that Telkom data contract, I will be able to connect to the internet while on TelkomSA-R and use up that all network data.

Not that I should have to buy an all network data bundle, Route 21 Corporate Park and Menlyn has good Telkom coverage and I have had no issues the preceding 4 years.

2 of my Telkom contracts are coming to an end (Aug and Oct), one will be replaced with the 20GB for R199 deal from Vodacom and the other with a Cell C prepaid 365day bundle. So my fix is to stop using Telkom.
