Network problems

I agree completely, but nowadays I happily settle for any response, however basic it is. I often first get ‘there is no problem’, and after I push a bit I may get a response saying that there is actually a problem with a basic explanation.

It really wish I could speak directly to the engineers rather than the communications departments – would make everyone’s life so much easier and consumers will be much happier with timely and accurate information.

I'm with you all the way. And I suppose we must be thankful for small mercies ( some kind of response, as you say ).

all the more reason to speed up LLU and get world+dog to self-provision... there's nothing like good competition to keep everybody on their toes...

I thought one of the major virtues of the internet was its ability to automatically find an alternative route.

Guess things will get better as the major players develop their own networks and have multiple peering links.

COULD THIS HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH IVY FAT ASS HAVING HER APPEAL DECLINED, SOUNDS LIKE TELKOM ARE SCARED OF LOSING THERE GRAVY TRAIN RIDE, DUMASSES:(

Just heard that it was a worker with a spade (Gautrain) that severed several fiber cables in Sandton. I see the train is already having an impact on traffic :-)

Telkom is just showings SA how important they are.....smart move (Neotel must be having smiles ear2ear)

I am still having problems with my Open Web ....had to change to my Telkom ADSL.....

At one stage there was no ADSL at all....everything was off......:(:(:(:(

Yes - that is the point. But when there are only 3 or 4 routes all running 90% capacity and you loose one link you suddenly have 120% traffic flowing through the pipes. When traffic on a packet switched network goes near (or over) 100% the latencies increase exponentially and you very quickly end up with a situation where most traffic just grinds to a halt.

Roll on ECNS licences.... and lots more backbone networks :D

Pity it takes so long to do anything in this country. Vodacom, MTN. Neotel and Telkom have all been laying fibre until they are blue in the face but it seems like we are no closer to having better/more networks to choose from.

Telkom built their network over decades, so it's going to take a while for the other networks to get a decent size deployment.

And then, of course, they'll also still be susceptible to someone with a spade.

It's always some idiot with a spade or front-end loader. The number of times in my life I have been a victim of said idiots is frightening!

Yea yesterday day I couldnt pull emails with my Nokia e51 (on vodacom)..thought it strange (started at swearing at my phone) but then after my notebook didnt want to connect via its HSDPA/3G connection I knew that all wasn't well on Vodacoms side...biatches
