...but in my search for a new car, I find myself favouring a Volvo of all cars. The Volvo C70 T5 convertible to be exact. Wow, what a beautiful machine!

I'm thinking of a shortlist though. I'm prepared to spend up to R400k (second hand Volvo btw). My shortlist so far is the Volvo C70 T5, Honda S2000, Audi TT and Mercedes SLK. Any thoughts about these cars - good or bad? What's your convertible of choice? What else should I be looking at? No BMWs by the way...

Eish you're getting old. S2000 IMO is the best bet

Ew. Go for the Audi TT :)

Not a bad option if it wasn't for the fact that every Tom, Dick, Sally and their pet cockatoo drive TTs these days. 2 of my mates drive TTs so it's low on the list...:o

You saying ew to the Volvo? Based on looks or preconceptions?

Well based on looks thou I know for a fact that they are very solid cars.
Just don't like the look of the C70 :/

I saw a Volvo ad earlier and saw a little hatchback type Volvo that made go "dang" that be perrtyy. I also like Volvo, safe cars, but their look needs updating.

370Z roadster?

R500k new and they've only just started selling - unlikely I'll find one under R400k and I aint stretching my budget. I start doing that and it gets out of hand. Nice car though by the looks of things...:o

Depending on whether you want four seats, the Volvo might be your only option. If it were up to me, I'd take the C70 or the SLK (new shape).

Eish, that put my budget to shame :o

No worries I'm sure you'll soon get some rich psychopathic murderer off on a technicality and get handsomely rewarded......

Actually that's a good point. I'd prefer 4 seats, but if I find a decent convertible 2 seater, then fsck the passengers - I don't have plans to regularly fill the back seats yet (sort of)...:D

In that case, take the Volvo... you know you want to :p It's probably odd for a 22 year old to admit this, but I love the C70.

I know I want to...:D I just want to make an informed decision as opposed to my usual spur of the moment ones.

I'm also still in my twenties btw. Man I love being able to still say that...:o

SLK55 and trust me you wont look back, a little above your R400k budget, but still in the R400's, an SLK350 is also nice

problem with the volvo is when they just come out they look fantastic and then the fab dies down quickly and the car loses value like crazy ...

To be honest, depreciation isn't much of a deciding factor for me. I've pretty much accepted that any car is going to depreciate and so I want a car that speaks to me instead. I'll admit, the SLK55 definitely speaks to me as well though...:o

The order so far:

Volvo C70 T5
SLK55
