Yeah, R497 - R149 = R348. You save R50 on the data.

People who say this either haven't actually used mobile for internet or they happen to be lucky enough to live in the sweet spot of a tower that is never under load. Mobile might be the future, maybe. But the future is tomorrow, so let's wait until we get there to see how mobile is doing against fixed lines before we declare it superior.

MOBILE is always going to be cheaper to provide, less labour intensive to install and maintain, easier to upgrade, and will always be able to deliver 10x the speed of any fixed line connection.

And yet it doesn't get upgraded and consistently fails to deliver higher speeds for anyone who doesn't live in exactly the right spot.

If WIRED CONNECTIONS were superior, then both radio and TV services would have migrated to it

Yes, I wonder why they didn't lay long cables to transmit analogue signals. The fools. But now I get a superior signal via satellite, so does that mean satellite is the superior method for internet too, in all circumstances?

So given that MOBILE connections are the future for everyone, everywhere, chasing fixed line customers is wasted effort.

Again, that's the future. You can't sell things that haven't come to pass yet.

A true leader and innovator will rent mobile capacity by the capacity at fixed monthly prices and roll out large data bundle packages for home office (50GB - 500GB) and business users (500+GB) with LTE devices / routers. A true leader in this space, won't sign an agreement with just one of the mobile operators, but with all 4, allowing connection through all of them, choosing the strongest signal in any given area, thus amalgamating the services of all operators to deliver a best of breed MOBILE internet offering.

Because one can just walk into their offices and tell them here's our agreement, sign it so we can be on our way. If only the world worked in this pie in the sky way you imagine it does. I'm frankly surprised Afrihost has the deal they do and I wonder whether what they're paying bears any relation to what they're charging the customer.
 
This is the surest proof that Afrihost and co are honest when they say they need further IPC price cuts to reduce data prices.

I wonder when Telkom are gonna step up to the plate?
 
I'm actually glad Afrihost have not dropped the price of their data products this time around. If they have any wiggle room, they need to pump the spare cash into making sure their data products perform well.

I'll have to second that opinion, it's more important keeping the network stable. BUUUUUUUT. There is a bit of sneakyness here, not all the savings from line costs seem to be passed on here. There is R20 to R30 per package that has now effectively increased.

Nothing major but a little sneaky nonetheless.....:confused:

Afrihost via twitter, customers on the 1mbps business uncapped bundle will be allowed to keep their subscription but will not be allowed to revert back if they cancel or change their package. So basically those of us on this particular package received no benefit whatsoever because now you have a 2mbps line (entry level) but only a 1mbps account for the same R397 (bundled). This is kind of pointless because now I cant use my 2mbps line till I upgrade and pay an extra R100 p/m.

Yeah. Telkom clearly offer the best priced bundle deal at the moment, with Afrihost a close second. R30 here or there isn't going to decide this round, it's gonna be network performance, which is tough because Telkom have a lot of grandmas on their network subsidizing the heavy users.

So ja, the challenge for Afrihost is clear: they have to match or beat Telkom's network performance because they are no longer the cheapest.

The whole industry needs further IPC price cuts.

Jip, can see that. Example

4mb uncapped used to be R697 with the line being R399, so the data portion was R298.
Now it's R597 with line of R279, so data is now R318. So effectively data is more expensive.

Sneaky indeed.

Agreed. I'm happy to pay a premium if I get great service and reliable performance.
 
Seriously considering their R797 bundle business uncapped 4mb, cheaper than my 4mb premium uncapped from mweb atm.... and I get a static IP xD

We don't even have 100Mbps connections in South Africa of ANY KIND. Because of backward people (like you).

You should lay off on the insults, especially on people you dont know at all. And even more so when you dont even have the foggiest clue about whats going on in SA, there are several 100Mbps products on offer right now. Shame, must be because your "10x faster than fixed line" mobile internet hasnt caught up to the present day yet :D

But again, please tell us more about these 10Gbps mobile offerings? Or lets stay local, where is the 1Gbps mobile offering (feel free to look abroad to see if anyone offers anything close to that)
 
So I have 2 options:
Option 1: Stay with AH on 2Mb (up from 1Mb) and pay R397 bundle price.
Option 2: Move back to Telkom DoUncapped Advanced, get 25% discount and pay R14 more for 4Mb Uncapped?
