New Afrihost TCs

I would also voice my concern for transparency, who are the 7% then? I do not need names, but at least put down some figures so that we can see what we are aiming for or if we should look to a different ISP.

That's what I asked them within 30 seconds of getting the email notice today. I want to know if based on my usage history I fall into the 7% magic number and if so, where abouts on the list do I fall, considering they're throttling from top to bottom.

It is uncapped, it's just not unshaped...

Like iBite says, it's fine, let the people who are complaining go somewhere else and leave all the bandwidth for us who don't rape the system :P

For starters, when someone you know actually gets raped, you may have a greater respect for the term, rather than using it to describe adsl usage.
Secondly, as far as I recall, uncapped is sold according to speed you require...not getting the speed you've paid for should not be part of the deal.

I also recall Gian saying the current system was very sustainable, what has changed? seems as just when we thought we were making headway to the first world standards we're sliding back. One step forward two steps back.

How will we do this?

We monitor our overall network usage on an hour to hour basis
and if our capacity is stretched we will dynamically shape and
throttle certain clients' uncapped accounts to relieve congestion.
These uncapped clients will be chosen based on their historic
bandwidth usage
.

so if you bought a steam game on day X last month sorry buddy youre it.....

well put it this way, if 93% of us are using 90-130gigs a month then we should be fine, lets hope there are 7% of people out there using over 200gigs a month

Thank you MyWorld, finally someone got the point too!

Please man. This is so obvious. AH is trying to phase out Uncapped without all the embarassment that comes with it. They need to admit they cant do it, shut it down and move on.

Yup... it seems to be the case :(

sorry but this system specifically targets users based on usage. shaping i can understand. but when you hit x amount used we throttle is in no way uncapped.

even the international standard is you get uncapped accounts that are shaped between certain hours. but that is a wide protocol management. not a specific usage amount equals we target you.

I am at 80 gigs and has been throttled to 0.2kB/s (4meg account) for the last week, and this is not just for downloading but for normal browsing too. I also cancelled my account yesterday and will never ever again use afrihost.

I haven't been following all the reports regarding uncapped and ISP's...who's the alternative to use if you've had enough of Afrihost?

+1 although mine seems fixed btw im back on 3.5mb with absolutely no downloading for 3 days, so i would say its safe to asume the 90gb - 120gb users are the evil 7%.

and next month the evil users is 60-90 ?

Just very interresting to see that none of the Afrihost Reps Reply to there Threads or complaints and to be honest this is the most obsured FUP i have ever seen. for the price you pay and a unstable service, which you are still haunted by somewhat of a cap system is completely unacceptable, and its also unacceptable that a company like this, changes the FUP without even letting the customer know and then the famous old: "its Telkom's Fault". gets used

According to that FUP this takes effect in August, yet we all know they busy testing this system on some of the clients already.

This is not to Descredit nor flame anyone, its just sad that a company like this which once had a good rep, destroyed itself by trying to compete with ISPs like Mweb and not provisioning the negatives or impact of a uncapped system. with all these restrictions in place this is not True uncapped and therefor your lying to your clients about your service.

Lets make a good comparision

Telkom 1GB 10GB local, Its called cap yes, but you never loose Local access which means in some sort of way I guess you can also label it as Uncapped, as according to Afrihost its uncapped, even if your throttled to hell, but your service is unusable and you loose connectivity,So in actual fact alot of Cap signs show. This also applies to your normal user which just wants to watch Youtube in HD or Listen to a radio station. HD streaming is about 4GB in streaming, so for those who just want to use it for normal entertainment will soon Fall in the 7% catagory. So in actual fact this kind of FUP is unpredictable.

For the silent majority, all you totally legal, web browsing , email your momma only internet users, we don't care about your needs, just like you don't care about our needs. Now shut the hell up and go back to browsing local. We actually make use of the internet, each and every part of it that we can have access to. If you want to limit yourself and your family, in the name of god and country, that is your loss. But don't come and whine here because we get to eat all the cake. We have the ability to do this, and we don't care if you do not.
