New Apple TV?

Hi all

I have recently sourced one of the new Apple TV's from Australia. I am trying to activate it using Home Sharing but it's not working. I can ping it from my computer so there's no communication issues.

I spoke to a guy at the iStore at Melrose Arch and he told me it's because Apple uses location tracking and thus I can't register it in South Africa. Is this true? All I want is to be able to access my iTunes library from my Apple TV. I can use the Airplay function to stream music to the Apple TV but that's it.

Please advise.

I sure hope it's not true. Mine is on it's way from the states,that would be a few bucks wasted!
 
I used to have an Australian account but since I moved to SA this year I've changed it. I did, however, try with someone else's Australian account and it worked. This was only when we went through a VPN though to confuse the Apple TV into thinking we are overseas. Still, though, I couldn't get home sharing activated. I could access Youtube, radio, movie rentals etc. etc. but no home sharing :(
 
Well home sharing is also not working for me. However I can still stream everything on my network's itunes library through the other feature of iTunes (shared libraries)

Home sharing is for copying music AFAIK.
 
Really? Can you stream videos too? The only thing I can do is AirPlay - using my Apple TV as speaker for iTunes.

thats nonsense im using Apple TV which i bought in the states 2 weeks back .... location tracking lol so much for genius bar
 
Check to see if ur on the latest iTunes, 10.1 and OSX 10.6.5
 
no issues with my home sharing, i have a us itunes account though , but there is no location tracking other than for netflix and that works great with a decent usa vpn provider anyway
 
apple Tv 2nd gen

Hi i have apple tv 2nd gen. apple us itunes account, can stream from itunes store, also have netflix up and running and home share no worries. Be sure to have latest version of Itunes installed. your itunes must be open on the source machine for home share to work. Homeshare should work with a local itunes store account. i got my Apl Tv in USA a month ago.
