New Apple TV:

According to the email I received it's available now.

Serious question, what is new about it? You can still only load the same "apps" on it if I'm not mistaken?

Plex on it then im sold!

The gaming is nice as well for light entertainment when Im really bored.

Im guessing price will be around R2800?

Like bwana just said, apparently it is available - but I can't find it on any of the re-seller's websites. Even our beloved "Apple Store" does not show it.

All I want to know is the price... I see the old one has been discounted to R1000 in some places.

It should be just above 1.5k: i am getting it mainly for plex and apple music.

Will go past istore today

I received an email today saying it's available and when I checked their website it now shows that it is available to buy but no luck finding anyone that actually has them in stock. All humans I spoke to stated that it isn't available as yet. A few weeks was the closest I could get to an actual time frame.

I see an apple tv listed there so definitely looks like plex will be coming.

Oh, it's a massive upgrade from ATV3.

- The controller has a glass touchpad, Siri button and Lightning charger and works over bluetooth
- It's got Siri integration with the ability to search by voice for content across apps, and control what you're watching, and overlay contextual information
- TVOS is a true fork of iOS so apps are easily portable
- It's got A8 processor so it's faster and it can manage lightweight gaming
- The interface is redesigned and looks very slick throughout. It's fast and has parallax animations and an iOS7+ sort of look, and the 'screensavers' are these cool aerial videos
- The list of apps already confirmed to come on board is looking much better than ATV3 (Plex and BBC have already confirmed)

Geez, those prices are hectic!

Plus side, should be able to scoop up the "old" version now pretty cheaply 2nd hand.

I think it'll be comparable to the Roku 4 when that lands. Right now Zeek has the Roku4 for R2900.

The ATV3 is 3 years old. It's ancient. I'd rather use a CC, in fact, I am using one.

Everyone waiting for the Plex app should follow this thread: https://forums.plex.tv/discussion/181404/plex-app-on-new-apple-tv-app-store#latest

And the official Plex Twitter account (https://twitter.com/plex).

App still currently waiting for approval from Apple.

:)

Does the new ATV support any form of DLNA? Because then the Plex Media Server should be accessible even without the App.

To me personally the only thing added to my system if buying one of these would be Apple Music and Airplay support, which makes it seem ridiculously expensive considering the main things I would use (Netflix, Hulu etc) are already natively available on my TV.

Including Plex which already works directly on my Samsung LED.

U can already get plex on the apple tv 3 using plexconnect

Well you aren't really "getting Plex" but rather simply connecting to PMS through the default interface.

Which isn't quite the same thing and skips many of the features.
