New Apple TV:

Well you aren't really "getting Plex" but rather simply connecting to PMS through the default interface.

Which isn't quite the same thing and skips many of the features.

Yeah no it needs to be a true platform. Lack of Plex support on ATV3 was a dealbreaker and it'll be a dealbreaker if they don't get it right on the new Apple TV as well. Then I'd rather get a Roku4, and maybe one day in the distant future I'll also care that it has 4k.

Roku 4 does look nice but I'm still happy with the Roku 3 and Streaming Sticks we have. Maybe one day when I get a 4k tv but that's not going to be for a while so I'll see whats available then.

On the other hand though - that find my remote feature on the R4 would be really useful now! :)

Find my remote yep especially if your replacement remote happens to cost $130 :o

Plex support will be the deciding factor for me and I assume most people actually.

At the moment its 2x ipads, 3x iphones , 1 x macbook pro in our household so it makes sense to get an apple TV lol

The SimpleX Plex app is already available on ATV4 and the official app is on its way.

Does the new ATV support any form of DLNA? Because then the Plex Media Server should be accessible even without the App.

To me personally the only thing added to my system if buying one of these would be Apple Music and Airplay support, which makes it seem ridiculously expensive considering the main things I would use (Netflix, Hulu etc) are already natively available on my TV.

Including Plex which already works directly on my Samsung LED.

Same here.. advantages would be Siri integration which is not available in SA (officially) and the limited Siri support/use on the device. Then you have the fact that unlike your iPhone, Siri does not auto listen for your commands but rather walks like a walkie talkie presently.. i.e. keep button pressed and say your command.. meh with her response/interaction being limited to visual only. Meh.. no offence but Alexa(Amazon Echo) has it way way better granted it its not quite the same thing but yah.. i reckon it will head that way eventually

To be fair the built in Plex, Netflix, and Hulu all pretty much suck on Samsung smart TVs which is why so many of my friends and associates have ditched them in favour of a Roku.

So who's buying?

Im doubting it'll be cheaper elsewhere?

I'm tempted but won't, at least not now. My Roku 3 still works brilliantly, if it craps out I may consider getting the ATV.

Bought my xmas present, don't have any devices at present, sold my DroidTV for R300.
I was going to get an iPad air 2 64gb but will keep iPad 3 for now.

Pricey toy.....:( will have to keep price hidden from the wife.

Im not paying for anyone to paint my entire house inside and out so this shall be my reward.

U can already get plex on the apple tv 3 using plexconnect

You can but it's a pain in the arse quite frankly.

Ran mine like that for a while but eventually packed it away and got a Roku

ATV4 with native Plex is great - a bit pricey, but if that FWD/Rew functionality works as advertised then it will (imo) be better than Plex (Roku Fwd/Rew is horrible)

What exactly do you mean? I find the Roku the best at timeline navigation, as long as you have media indexing enabled.
