New Axxess 384k Uncapped live

As an existing Axxess account user, I am going to try one of these. If it doesn't suit, I'll switch back to my express+. The 24/7 support is really nice and webtraffic in the day is great as I'm quite happy that my downloads only work well at night. Latency is my concern , after hours so will see how it performs but THANKS Axxess for letting me stay with an ISP that given such good service and test out a new account.

There's no harm in trying the account out :D

Sounds like a great deal! How different is this from MWEB's new uncapped offering (384k=R219 & 4096k=R539 for data only)? Who is using whose backbone, and which is more reliable?

And we still don't know if the express + accounts will be taking strain and running as they should - what with all the added new clients. Is there any gaurentee that the quality of service of the express + accounts will stay the same??

Jip, thats what I have been waiting for - the only downer is that it is shaped. Not so hot...

Ok, forgive my lack of understanding here, but what is the noticeable difference between shaped and unshaped?

Basically it means that with the shaped account you have to be more careful of how much you download. The ISPs will use their AUP to control usage on those accounts. Not so good for the HEAVY downloaders....

On the unshaped accounts you can download without worry. But you pay a higher price for those deals - take a look at the Axxess express + fibre account for example (R999.00/month)

Hope this makes sense...

Is that the definition of shaped??? I thought had to do with the port and protocol prioritisation? Sorry for my ignorance.

Actually It means that some protocols are shaped during peak hours so gaming, skype, torrents or news servers might be a little slow at times when shaped. Unshapped is full speed all the time.

Yep , Aqua is right, shaping has nothing whatsoever to do with the amount that you download. It has to do with the priority at which packets are processed first over others.

Hey, Aqua, be fragging you again soon

Thanks guys! That makes more sense now. Just need it for fast inet browsing and some big downloads - about 30-40GB per month

The new package should suite you fine.

Thanks for the backup Aqua_lung and Kosmik. Your answers are 100% correct.

Ermmmm~ What categories as HEAVY downloader? 200gb should be alright?
Compare to their unshapped acc~ who dl at 800+GB... ;/
I wanna to know, are we allowed to download on these account from asian site?
Like the 1 we had wif expressed?

Anyone know if I can easily switch from Express+ to Uncapped Shaped? Or do I have to cancel and then sign up for the new account?

I just applied for the 4MB Shaped uncapped. I can hardly wait to see how it performs (upgrading from 512K line to 4MB and Getting shaped from Semi-shaped)

I realise that this will contradict some previous post but when I phoned to get some additional info regarding fair usage, the lady (Loiusa, or something like that) told me that it should be fine even if I download about 700 gig/month, as I am doing now.

She even went so far as to joke that it is what why it is called "uncapped", as long as it is legal downloads.

This surprised me quite a bit since they are merely reselling the same IS accounts that are floating about. but time will tell...
