Not necessary but I recommend it. It's what you use to make the **** on your pc happen. It's what your hands touch.

Hi all

I have decided to build my first gaming rig (I talked myself out of a ps4), so I went on rebeltech and threw this together, any tips and suggestions are welcome :)

- Intel Core i7-4770K, 3.5GHz, LGA1150, Quad Core ------- R4385
- Seagate Desktop SSHD ST1000DX001, 1TB, Hybrid SSHD, SATA6G, 7200rpm, 8GB MLC SSD - R1076
- ASUS Z87-K: all-in-one LGA1150 - R2308
- LG GH24NS95, 24x SATA, black, support SecurDisc technology - R176
- GIGABYTE GV-N770OC-4GD, 4Gb/4096mb 256bit DDR5, with WindForce3x - 3 fans design - R5888
- Corsair CMZ4GX3M1A1600C9, 4GB, Vengeance with heatsink, DDR3-1600, CL9, 1. (X3) - Total R1719
- Cooler Master K550, Mid Tower, Black, with Windowed Side Panel, no PSU - R1015
- Antec HCG-M (High Current Gamer Modular), 750w (12v : 744W), with EPS12V v2.92 - R1437

- Total machine cost: R18004.00

Acc's:
- LG 23EN43V, 23" LED display - R2378
- Cooler Master Quickfire XT (SGK-4030-GKCL1) - R1196
- Corsair Vengeance M95 (CH-9000025-AP), Gunmetal Black, Wired -R735
- Corsair Raptor HS40 (CA-9011122-NA), 7.1 gaming headset with built-in USB audio - R467
Sub Total Cost: R4476

Total cost: R22 780.00

First question, is the PSU good enough?
Don't know why anyone hasn't picked up on the GPU price and that it's 4GB?! Don't get the 4GB GTX770, get the normal 2GB if you really want a GTX770. It has similar performance than a R9 280X, which you can find for cheaper. If you do want a 4GB card, you are mad to spend that on a GTX770 when the R9 290 is just a few R100 more.

Like the other peeps said, i5 4670K is a great CPU for gaming. If you do decide to overclock however, remember to get a CPU cooler. Also like the other guys mentioned, rather get 2x8GB or 2x4GB. If you'd like to save the extra R1000, go 2x4GB. You can just add another 2x4GB later. According to what you have said, you are not going to use any programs which will need more RAM, so 8GB will be fine for now.

The case is very bad for the price range. When they were still R600 it was worth it, but for for R1200 you can get the CM Scout 2 or Corsair Carbide 500R which is much, much better. PSU is great and will last you a long time.

What type of games are you looking to play? Your mouse if mostly for MMOs, whereas the M65 is for FPS. M65 is a great little mouse, which would be a good starting point. Just remember to get a nice smooth mousepad as well. The keyboard is a great KB as well :)

Your headies however, don't skimp too much on those. Get the Corsair Vengeance 1500 V2 which is great value for money and would last you a long time. It is R300 more, but in the bigger scheme you'd be a lot more satisfied.

You should get a SSD. It will give NO performance increase with regards to gaming performance. ONLY loading times will be affected. To give an idea, I have a 128GB SSD with my OS, all my programs and BF4 on. Load times of Windows and BF are great! Although, way too small for my Steam library, but the games can be loaded onto separate drives. Where you get the advantage in BF4, is that you're in the map before most other people and can go capture that flag before anyone else :p

What difference does an SSD make in-game after you have loaded the game?

Waaaat? SSD has changed my life completely. Will never go back. If you are going all out on a system a SSD is an absolute must. (I would personally recommend the 256gig samsung) At the moment i have Win7 running off 32GB on all 3 of my pc. I then have extra ssd for steam folder and **** like that. My win7 install is sitting around 20 gig for my work pc. And around 14 gig for my home pc. I use small ssd for OS because its easier when it comes to reinstalling and formatting. Also dont want win chomping up all my read and write life time cycles for the more expensive drives.

People love to refer to the 'gaming' brand of pc. You dont get such a thing as a gaming pc. Its all a gradient. I have jammed source engine on a 775 processor and my new i7 haswell. It runs like **** or it doesn't. Even my 660Ti struggled with the new crysis on full and one could consider that a 'gaming' pc.

On a personal note, if you planning on buying a new pc, especially a high end one. My advice hold out till june. Intel will bring out the new range of processor. Be a shame to fork out for the 4770 and then they release a whole range thats better. Even if it is just slightly.

Had a nice laugh at this

An SSD makes loading applications faster (all applications) hence your whole PC, am I correct? Which leads it to making load times for games faster and in that regards your pc becomes faster. I'm only trying to say it doesn't make a difference while playing the game (in my own opinion and this is how I built my pc which is predominantly for gaming - I opted for a better card).

Don't misinterpret me, I would love to get an SSD some time, but I'd only get something with a minimum of 200gb and at this moment it isn't a priority.

The OP doesn't seem to have too low a budget so an SSD would be a good way to go regardless.

I had the same mindset as you until I got my ssd.
It really is a major game changer.
Everything works better, EVERYTHING!!!!

Mind pointing out which ones are? :)
Is there a cheaper place to buy? Cause I don't have a budget, I would like to spend as little as possible :p

Where are those prices from?
Looks like Rebeltech if I'm not mistaken?

Collermaster scout case for R1196? you can get a decent coolermaser or Aerocool case for R700.
You must like the Samsung EVO to pay R2415 for the ssd.

Why the Z787 board? nice board but overkill to say the least at that price.

Antec 750w you could most likely replace with a similar sized Seasonic for a bit less.

You could get a similar sized ssd for R1000 less that will work as well.

You can compare the prices to Techimport and Wootware. Thing is, you'll save on some components at one place and then some other at another place. But, shipping fees should be calculated as well.

With regards to your list you posted:
CPU+Mobo+SSD+RAM+GPU+Headies+KB+PSU+Case+DVD = All good

Screen: Very debatable. There are some true screen lovers here and they say the screen makes the difference. But, for R3k more? What can R3k get you? We'll for starters a R9 290, rather than a GTX770. Chuck in another 8GB RAM and get the super great looking CM Trooper case! But, then the case will start another debate on its own :p However, if you think that you like the screen so much, that you're willing to spend R5.8k on it. Go ahead... But my advice would be to settle on a normal 23" now and get better components, and then when the money becomes available, get an uber screen!

Mouse: You sure you want the green one and not the black or white? :p Also, do you have a nice mousepad? If not, just add one for like R150.

HDD: Don't get that 500GB. Spend the bit extra and get the 1TB, you won't regret. Or even 2TB if you can.

It's going to be a beast :D

Thanks for the advice, as I said, this is the first time I am building a rig/diving into the world of pc gaming so I'm not really sure what prices should be. What motherboard would you recommend?

Forgot to mention something about the RAM.

When you decide to overclock or get an CPU Cooler (Air cooled), that RAM heatsinks could come in the way. That could be avoided by a watercooler. Just something to keep in mind for the future.

Well I would consider my future plans; overclocking or not?
Find a board with similar specs but a lower chipset and you'll save.
That is however if you are concerned about the price.

Okay I can almost guarantee that I will overclock sometime in the future, not majorly though just enough to keep on the edge.
So I should try avoid ram that have heatsinks on them & get a cpu cooler?
