New Camera needed

EVF is pretty nice

Only if you're not used to an optical one.

and apart from the new Nikon SLRs still cannot take videos.

New Canon too, so what's the problem? This time next year most, if not all SLRs will be able to do video. With proper AF and metering and for cheaper too.

Why must I buy a device to do just one thing? If I buy a camera I expect it to take videos and pictures and do both of them well.

Different strokes for different folks. You're talking like someone who has no or little SLR experience. That's clearly your perspective and what you base your decision on. When I just got my DSLR I was quite happy to flip back and forth between it and my fairly high-end P&S. But after a year, I can tell you that no P&S or bride or pro-sumer or whatever, no matter how cool and what features it has, compare to a DSLR at all for taking stills. Based on that, I don't care how many other devices I need, I'm happy with what the SLR gives me.

Also keep in mind that not everybody cares about video.

Why would I want my SLR to take video?...

Surely that will involve design compromises? Rather get a video camera, it will do a better job. The video that comes out of normal P&S cameras is rubbish at the best of times.

I'm glad Rouxenator has joined. Now you guys can see that I am not opinionated, and actually quite fair and logical. :D

just pulling your leg Roux

ld... you've never struck me as badly opinionated :)... you listen to reason at the very least which is refreshing :D

I don't know only have one lens... its a bit frustrating but yeah

I will give it back in due time... did you check my photo's on flickr bwana?

hey i think i know what your problem is, there is some setting about autofocus. you need to press that fn button and check somewhere inside there. i know when i played around with the A200 i couldnt manual focus even tho the switch was set on manual.

Have a look at Nikon D40. This digital hd video camera will be about £270 to £280 once you have received the cashback. If there is a Jessops close by then I would suggest you visit and try out the different cameras suggested and see how they feel in the hand and how easy you find the menus and buttons to use.

Thread Necro time?
