It's a simple matter of torque.
However the Fiesta and Kuga also weight completely different weights.
Higher RPM's don't necessarily mean more work as the engine technologies are designed completely differently.
If it equates to more fuel usage that would be a matter of more work actually happening.
An Audi 4.2 V8 will barely run above idle at 120km/h...but will still chow 10l/100km in doing so. Although it revs less it works more if that makes sense.

So probably more like 12 in the real world.
I'm getting 15,7km/l with a Kia Picanto in the real world now and that's under terrible driving conditions with very short trips and little highway.

OP have you gone out to get prices on 16inch tyres or is the massive price difference based on hearsay? My prior Polo 6R had 15, 16 and 17 inch tyres and the price of 16 and 17 inch tyres were roughly the same. If you have a weird tyre profile then tyres may be a bit more, but factory spec 16 are not going to be massively overpriced compared to other sizes. You should find tyres at below R1000 each.
You are not likely to get close to R150k for an old fiesta. And you will be miserable in one of those smaller cooler box cars (despite what the Picanto dude seems to post all over) as compared to a mid size hatch.
Decide if it's worth downgrading your car and still paying more (either from savings or monthly) is worth it.
If your car is reliable then I would think twice about changing. The fuel saving is going to be marginal. And you will be in a lesser car. Try adjusting your driving habits and see if there is an improvement in economy.

Although value kept well. Bought in 2014 for R123k. Sold last month for R90k to family. Retail value still around R120k.

It's a simple matter of use case.
Ironically enough I had a Fiesta as a rental not too long ago and I can't think of a single reason I would have that over the Picanto outside of marginal boot space difference which I will say can be challenging at times compared to the Golf before it.
A boot however does not a car make...and the other parts are mostly lacking on the Fiesta in particular and many other features.
Having gone from an all powerful GTI to a Picanto puts me in a very unique position about being "miserable" which simply isn't true in the real world.
Had I bought an Up! I would have been miserable for sure.
VW has the one benefit which is proper automatics...but also the reason I sold my car so not sure it's a winning feature overall.
Ultimately I'm just illustrating people should question the de facto standard of what will apparently make them "miserable".

Just checked new Fiesta is 300kg more heavy so it's 77kw/170nm won't mean all that much.
It's only got a marginally larger boot and is 40cm longer and only 14cm wider which doesn't necessarily go into the cabin.
Interestingly enough the Up! has basically the same interior space as the Polo as the dimensions are shaved off elsewhere and I bet much the same applies here.
Yet the Fiesta STARTS at R260,000 where it doesn't even match all the features of the much cheaper Picanto.
VW Vivo Highline - GT is better priced at R214,000 - R245,000 but might still come out lacking in some things and winning in others.
So tell me exactly where is the "miserable" hiding in here?
It certainly won't work for everyone and their needs, but to assume someone will be miserable for spending less money and getting more value for it really is a stretch.
Please do elaborate based on the above...

WRT to downgrade comment. Moving from a mid size hatch to a micro hatch. The Fiesta plays in a different category to the likes of the Up and Picanto. Build quality will be different as well as interior space. I've been in both cars. I greatly dislike the fiesta especially that dash that looks like it's out of a space ship, but would rather drive that instead of an up or Picanto (and that's something as I'm a VW nut)
