New Cell C Hi5 contract launched

I'm not super familiar with Cell C's plans, but didn't they already have a thing called "Friends and Family" that does exactly this?

Was what I that as well. I know that they had it back when they launched.

This Hi5 thing suits me perfectly. My Straight Up contract is currently just running month to month because I haven't cancelled it or committed to a new long-term contract, so I should be able to switch immediately.

Friends and Family hasn't been around for a while.

Cell C press statement:

Cell C brings people closer with Hi5

Cell C is pleased to announce the launch of Hi5, a contract that offers customers discounted call rates when calling five preselected numbers on the Cell C network.

“Consumers always have a few numbers they call more regularly than others and Hi5 is aimed at lowering the cost of those calls. Its ideal for consumers as well as small businesses looking at curbing costs in tough economic environments,” says Cell C Acting CEO Jose Dos Santos.

With the same benefits as Cell C’s Straight Up contracts, Hi5 customers will pay R150 for 150 anytime, any network minutes, 150 SMSes and 150MB of data. Over and above that, customers will be able to register five numbers on the Cell C network that will receive a preferential rate of 75c per minute on pure per second billing, that is a 25% discount from the standard 99c call rate.

“The 75c call rate to registered numbers is guaranteed for the life of the contract and is not subject to expiry rules hidden in the fine print of the contract – a tactic often employed by companies,” says Dos Santos.

Hi5 will also be launched with a handset deal, which comes standard with a Samsung Galaxy S3 mini, and the inclusive Hi5 monthly benefits at an unbelievable subscription of R199 on a 24-month contract.

Customers that already have a device can receive all the same benefits of the Hi5 contract with the SIM only option for R150 per month on flexible terms ranging from month-to-month to 24 months.

“Hi5 is the result of extensive consumer research, which tells us that keeping in contact with communities, families, colleagues, among others, is becoming ever more important to South Africans,” says Dos Santos.

He adds that Cell C will continue to take an innovative approach to lowering prices and bringing great value to customers, even while the industry awaits the outcome on Mobile Termination Rate Regulations.

Hi5 will be available to customers from 1 March 2014 from any Cell C franchise store and participating contract partners.

Ah, cool thanks. Like I said, not very familiar. Trying to get a handle on the options though, MTN contract going to bite the dust at end of June. Now if they would just stop calling me every other day to remind me that I can upgrade.

I like the prices but I still think I'm moving from C when my contract ends, Cell C has been great in terms of price but I'm quite tired of the network not working properly half the time. Sometimes it will take a minute for a whatsapp message to go through because of the over congested network. The only think that saves me is my ADSL WiFi. I'll try Telkom Mobile next. Use them for data and speeds are great! :)

I agree, Cell C pricing is great! BUT, their network has taken a huge dip. I have tried to call my phone during the day and it goes automatically to voicemail without ringing. I hope they will resolve this soon.

In the meantime i am also thinking of Telkom mobile.

small correction... 25c to other SimSonke subscribers on net NOT all telkom mobile users.

at least that in the T's & C's

Citation needed.
You are right, but not anymore. It was when Sim Sonke was introduced on 8ta and was not able roaming MTN.
Now we have Telkom Mobile, 25c is to any TM subscriber and also when roaming through MTN.

Indeed its to any telkom mobile number now irrespective if that person is on contract or on 8ta more price plan as long as its Telkom Mobile to Telkom Mobile. Yes and also works when roaming on MTN.

Finally!!! A mobile company that actually offers a new mobile contract. :p
