I just got a standard canned response from cisp. That after posting a link to this thread - the person who dealt with it did not even bother to read.

"Sorry for the frustration.Unfortunately we can't guarantee anything close to a 1:1 contention ratio on international traffic, however we do try to stay ahead of our competitors when it comes to speeds. You'll most likely see anything from 10:1 to 30:1 when our networks are at their peak. During our quieter times, you might even see a 2:1 contention ratio.

Please keep in mind that these speeds are dependent on the server that you are downloading from and various other factors such as latency and TCP buffer do come into play.we'll always try investigate to try and get you the best speeds we can.

Kind Regards
Cool Ideas"

The "competitor" in this case being Telkom ADSL? Telkom ADSL being 12 times faster? - thats not "staying ahead"

I have read through some of the posts in the “feedback” thread and would like to clear some things up.

@PBCool and Everyone. It was a bit wrong of me to post cisp response to my ticket in public chat for that I apologise. I got a call after 5pm yesterday from the cisp support. They had been in contact with Vumatel who wanted me to do a speedtest on their portal. Unfortunately that speedtest does not work for me. More about that and Vumatel later. It is new year weekend and I do not expect anything to happen until next week.

I think I speak for a LOT of members when I say that the presence of PBCool on this forum is greatly appreciated. I do not think any other service provider have the same dedicated presence if any. When fibre went live in my area I did my research on isp’s. It was the presence of PBCool on this forum that tipped my hand to choose Cool Ideas even though I have never seen a flyer, or sales rep from Cool Ideas unlike the dozens of flyers that swamped my post box and came aknocking at my door from the competitor isp’s.

Vumatel has a semi working broken portal that come up in google search https://sp.vumatel.co.za/Account/Login all I get on that portal is https://snag.gy/AbrjVU.jpg even though address and other details are correct. The correct portal to log to Vumatel is https://shop.vumatel.co.za/ - took me weeks to discover that.
I have tried running the Vumatel speedtest on Firefox and IE 11 – ensuring that adobe flash is installed and working but have had no success..

almost Happy New Year!

There is a massive amount of information generated by wireshark... just what am i looking for?

THere's a shedload of TCP retransmission in that analysis. You have packet loss happening somewhere. Pity you can't use the vuma portal as that would definitely isolate it to your CPE/line/aggregation point/ISP breakout at vuma. I doubt it's the breakout as CISP users all over would be shouting then...

Vuma need to investigate your line.

Yeah I picked this up which is basically a delay tactic. I am busy with it but the time of year seems to delay everything.

Thanks Sinbad I appreciate your input. Unfortunately I cant reproduce the same result every time (all those red line errors) It happens at times but not always. I just did another test with this result: https://snag.gy/8Tufjc.jpg
I have tried everything I can to get Vumatel speedtest to work on both firefox and ie11 - flash woking in both browsers.

Try force your fibre router WAN port speed to 100Mbit and not have it on autosync which probably would sync at 1000Mbit to the CPE. This might isolate the problem to the CPE which is similar to an issue I had with my first CPE that were faulty syncing at 1000Mbit.

If this doesnt help then you have some serious issue with the physical fibre cable. Unfortunately if the issue were with cisp you would probably have had it resolved much quicker.

Thanks John. I am currently bypassing the router - the PC is connected directly to the CPE - was done with the kind help of PBCool. Will try contacting support soon if i dont hear from them.

If you go directly from pc to CPE you need to force your network card to sync at 100Mbit else the same issue might occur where it syncs to faulty CPE at 1000Mbit.

There's no reason not to sync at 1000mbps.

There is if you read the point I made regarding a faulty CPE I initially received that if I synced at 1000Mbit it had nearly identical issues that EveDawg experience. The Idea is to completely rule out any issues with the CPE since if that is the issue for EveDawg then the solution would be very easy to replace the CPE and fix the issue.

Call Vuma on 086 100 8862.

Tell them you're seeing packet loss and you'd like them to investigate please.
