New DStv channels in development

DSTV never said that

"Satellite pay-TV broadcaster MultiChoice expects to launch a new Internet-connected decoder during the first quarter of 2013.

Aletta Alberts, head of content at MultiChoice, was answering a question at a recent panel discussion about whether they are planning to launch a purely on-demand service or something similar to the season passes offered by Apple on iTunes."

Wtf. They cancel the Afrikaans kiddy channel and now prepare to launch an african language channel. Ja regtig DSTV, julle vry mos nou dik na die verkeerde kant toe... Multichoice clearly want to tap into the bigger African market out there...

80% of SA is Black - majority of which only watch Mzansi*, Africa Magic*, SABC 1+2 and SS3+4 only content. If you have not ventured outside your bourgeois lifestyle or cycle then don't assume that the rest of the world (townships and DBN/JHB CBD - where majority of South African citizens stay) has the same interests as those of your LSM level.

Awesome news! Let those who like the crap pay for it.

A link outside of mbb?!

Does rpm know about this?

Funny. He probably does. We do link to the root domains of external sites. It's the linking to specific pages at an external site we're skittish about due to the issue of dead links.

So is it channels or a channel?

A little ambigious, yes, but if you read the piece it should be clear. One channel is having content developed specifically for it (Mzansi Wethu) while the other is a movie channel.

So what is the point of this thread then?

Read the rest of the article. These channels are on the cards, and we have some pretty specific information about them, MultiChoice just isn't talking about them for now.

One would wager that 80% of that figure cannot afford DSTv, so your point is kind of moot.

Do you even know what it means? Maybe if you understood its meaning you'll not diss it as it is a beautiful name. FYI it is Nguni-ish for Our South Africa.
If I didn't know what it means I wouldn't have said it's shat. Multichoice could have been more creative with the naming

Oh they do. In large numbers. Alexandra township where 170k people have nothing but corrugated iron covering all 5 sides of their tiny shacks have satellite dishes & are happy to pay for it. Go check it out.

But they do. Find the latest stats from DSTv, see their area of growth by bouquet and demographics and you'll see that this point is very valid. There's a decline in the other segment as they get better and faster internet. Since SABC lost PSL rights there's been a massive uptake of the Multichoice's services - mainly for the local sport loving South Africans.

More great news! Since it gets paid by those who wants it, remove it from my bouquet and reduce my subscription fee.
