New DStv channels in development

A new local channel is being developed for DStv, according to an industry source

I hope that they will do the aspect ratio thing properly when airing ads. Unlike KYKNET where they
have a letterbox inside a letterbox with very fat and wide people and objects. Also, why do they crop a lot
of the feature progs. on Kyknet? (making your tv screen smaller than what it actually is!) Even SABC tv knows how
to do it properly!

Another reason for me to re-consider my DStv subscription. I'm paying for this but I'll never watch it.

In fact, I think the days of programmed channels are fast approaching their end. They're inconvenient, loaded with commercials and quite frankly, in the case of DStv Premium disgustingly overpriced. The new data packages from Afrihost will allow me to use my 6144/640 ADSL line to stream a lot of content from online providers, or download it and make my own damn channel of programs to watch. I doubt that I will even get up to R700 a month on data usage.

I've given up watching sport - bores me to tears. There's nothing that's going to happen on any sports arena that I haven't already seen in my life.

I agree that the Kyknet letterbox viewing is *** irritating.

More **** you don't want... expect an increase in cost :)

It is 2013 ffs, everything should be broadcasted in proper 16:9 aspect ratio. Punishing the masses due to some misconception that you will piss off people on CRTs...

As for new channels with 'local' content....

So is it channels or a channel?

EDIT:

When we are ready to announce the launch of new channels, we will do so. At present, there is nothing to announce.

So what is the point of this thread then?

I would rather say group the channels packages better...or even a better option, let you choose what channels you want! Rather then filling the viewing roster with channels nobody is watching.

The hallmark of an arrogant monopoly?

Beyond me why people would support them, because they are saying that monopoly is ok and that is what they want. Please do not give us something better.

Rubbish, everything you miss in sport is something you have never seen. Unless you are from the future and have seen everything.

What on earth are you paying 700 rand for if sport bores you? like to waste money?

More crap?! Why Larry, why???!!!!
Please give me the option to select and pay for the channels I want in a personalised bouquet. And no BS about subsidising other channels either!!

More crap channels that no one watches? Whoever does their market research for them should be shot.

Mzansi Wethu what a shatty name. Why not Mzansi Magic 2 or Plus?

Do you even know what it means? Maybe if you understood its meaning you'll not diss it as it is a beautiful name. FYI it is Nguni-ish for Our South Africa.

80% of SA is Black - majority of which only watch Mzansi*, Africa Magic*, SABC 1+2 and SS3+4 only content. If you have not ventured outside your bourgeois lifestyle or cycle then don't assume that the rest of the world (townships and DBN/JHB CBD - where majority of South African citizens stay) has the same interests as those of your LSM level.
